The vast vast vast majority of rifles are not choked at the muzzle, even most centerfire target barrels are not, and by most I mean 99.9999..%

Mark is absolutely correct. Very few rifle barrels are choked and the numbers of the very few that are grow less each year.

I was thinking about posting this since I first saw this post but never got around to it. LOOOONG back I had read this article and was sure that there is NO Choke but was not sure if I was remembering it right. Anyway, here's the article.
http://www.riflebarrels.com/articles/ba ... barrel.htm
The quote I am referring to is this one:
"And the inside diameter and groove depths should be uniform end to end."
With all the high end custom barrel makers espousing hand lapping, fire and air guaging Idathunk that it has to be end to end.
As you can see, it is on Lilja Barrels website and I think they know something about building accurate barrels. Check out the other Articles on their website, they are VERY informative.

Here is another article on barrel making http://www.firearmsid.com/Feature%20Art ... acture.htm
This would be relevant-

Many think a slight choke at the muzzle end of a ten thousandth or so will improve accuracy. But bench rest shooters have shown that parallel barrels seem to win more matches than choked ones. The exception is barrels which shoot lead bullets, like .22 Rimfire barrels and air rifle barrels. These barrels definitely shoot better if there is a slight choking in the barrel.
