Since Rifle is the most commonly used term as far as firearms go hence they are rifle associations. For eg. Rajputana Rifles, Assam Rifles etc. I may be wrong but I have replied just using common sense and not some concrete evidence.
The day guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

I have brought this up several times in our Association too, and it sorta turned into a joke, with rifle shooters ragging pistol shooters that they are not 'actual' members.
I agree to having the broader aspect of 'Shooting' or even 'Aiming' to serve as a more broad-minded name.

@ 'Aiming' - but then shotgunners don't truly 'aim' when shooting... ;)

What I ws trying to get at is to have an 'Umbrella' like word that cover 'Generic' aspects of sports and eents that fall under some particular branch. Guess Shooters, Archers, Dart-board players, all do 'Aim' in a way :)
But lets drop 'Aiming' for now... shall we?
