The trials and tribulations one hears from the members of this forum regarding an ordinary arms application, what do you think will be the response to application for an arms manufacturing unit?
The illegal firearms manufacturing shacks dont seem to have VAT, sales tax and excise problems
Some of the IPC rules go back to 1860-3 years after the 1st war of independance-some one forgot to tell the govt that we're independent now!!
A good machinist in the west will not only set up a manufacturing unit, but will be encouragd to turn out high quality weapons for LEGAL buyers.
I echo your sentiments...

Could well be true, Bob.
IOFB (Indian Ordnance Factory Board) produce a revolver in .32 ACP that is a copy of a Webley and Scott revolver.

Even if they did, we are still churning out 'sat night special' quality 32 cal webley design revolvers from the IOF and a 22 LR revolver, another sat night special, with a alum frame and probably, barrel too, which does not work well with Indian ammo!
You'll find many lamentations on this board.
BUT we want to aim for a 'moon shot' in a couple of years!
We dont have child proof bottles for medications either...
I'm sure a trained gunsmith with proper CNC machines etc has NEVER applied to GOI for setting up a handgun manufacturing unit, to offer 'WORLD CLASS' handguns to the citizenery of India...we just like to use that word, world class to con ourselves
Till then, we'll have to settle for substandard junk churned out by the IOFB and the 'hathodas' offered by the pvt fly by night (and day) operators!

AFAIK The IOFB .32 revolver is chambered for .32 S&W Long and NOT .32 ACP. It is their .32 Pistol that is chambered for .32 ACP...Mack The Knife Bana";p="3259 wrote:IOFB (Indian Ordnance Factory Board) produce a revolver in .32 ACP that is a copy of a Webley and Scott revolver.

Cheers! The same year (1983) Webley's revolver business (including drawings, tools, machinery and gauges) was sold and transferred to Ghulam Muhammad Dossul Engineering Ltd in Pakistan. The "Webley" name and trademark however, was retained by Webley & Scott to be used on other products.

The IOF pistol is a copy of Webley Scott revolver ?
Maybe the IOF revolver is a copy or borrows it's design from Webley Scott, and yes that would be chambered for .32 S & W while the IOF pistol would be .32ACP.
But even if a copy then its the 4th or 5th copy or pure bad inspiration, looks like IOF copied it with eys closed and the mind somewhere else.

It's actually a copy of the Enfield revolver, which itself was more or less a copy of the Webley design....

Yes.......but a simplified copy that was cheaper to manufacture........and not finished as well........
The telling information is right at the end of that Wikipedia entry when it states that:
"Despite this, the Enfield No. 2 Mk I* revolvers were not popular with troops, many of whom took the first available opportunity to dump them in favour of Smith & Wesson, Colt, or Webley revolvers."
No front-line soldier `dumps` his weapon in favour of another without very good reason...........................
The IOF is a copy of a revolver that was not popular with troops, which was itself a near copy of another revolver.............
Yeah. Ought to tell you something.
