My First rifle

Post by Vikram » Sat Nov 17, 2007 1:58 am

“Have I mentioned the cracking Parker Hale Lee Enfield .303 sporter on Guntrader ? Have you seen it?” Thus enquired Grumps in his mail. And the moment I saw the pics and the price tag, the immediate reaction was “wow”. There was no hesitation nor was any thought spared to practicality. I got to have it and Von Grumpenberg nodded kindly in the affirmative. Friends, there was no delay to be made like I earlier did with a .303 by Williams, Grey and Moore rifle in super condition.

This is a .303 sporting rifle completely made by Parker-Hale on a number 4 Enfield action. About 21” barrel, five shot detachable box magazine, Monte Carlo walnut stock, folding rear sight , cantilever scope mount, rosewood fore end and grip cap. All of it mine for an incredible price, even at UK standards, and sure to bring tears in India. I am not trying to rub it in but trying to say how lucky I am. All this would not have been possible without Grumps who first pointed me to it, buy it from the seller and keep it with him till I get my license. Thanks Grumps. He tells me that the action is polished too and moves like a hot knife through butter! I am waiting for him to shoot it and tell us all how good it shoots.

Ladies and gentlemen, my very own first rifle and what a rifle at that! I would love it should any of you like to shoot it. That will be a pleasure.

I hope to take it for Red Deer in Scotland and Fallow elsewhere in UK.

Hope you like it.

Enjoy-
Vikram

I guess there is no point playing 'spot the jammy sod' anymore...

Well done, Vickers and here's to many more.

Vikram,

Nice rifle.Congratulations.

If it is not too much trouble can you post a close up photo of the scope rails from the top and both the sides. Are they welded on to the rifle?

The mounts are Parker Hales own penpusher and are are attached to the left side of the receiver with three Allen ( `Hex` ) studs. So a `cantilever` mount of a sort.....but not in the usual sense.
Welding to the receiver on any rifle would be a very bad idea as there would be a distinct risk of the heat distorting ( warping ) the receiver.

A photo speaks louder than words  How about three, one from the top,one from the left and one from the right side.Might be useful in getting one for a IOF .315 rifle.

What format ?
OK penpusher, I`ll take some photographs sometime over the next few days - they might serve as a pattern because you can`t buy the P-H mount anymore.
