Hi buddies,
Its been quite some time since I made a post. Apologies. I applied to SAF, Kanpur and not FGF. Sent a DD for the total sum of Rs.64,000/- plus. I got an intimation that I had to come in August, they had given three days. The letter contained certain requirements, that the licence is valid, that I should have a no objection certificate from Bangalore police commissioner for transporting it, that I should reach Kanpur one day in advance to get the Transport licence from DM. Kanpur. Accordingly I made my travel arrangements from Blore. On reaching Kanpur, I went to the DMs office and when I told the guy at the enquiry counter that I had come for a transport licence, he called me in, offered a chair, got someone to bring a paper in which he wrote out an application on my behalf, got the same guy to get the required non judicial stamp or whatever and the long and short of it is that he merely asked me to go and sign in a register at the end of it and I had a TL in my hand. EDITED For someone who has come from south, if asked to go to some counter to purchase the application form, to yet another counter to procure the stamp, fill in go to some other place to remit the money and then go elsewhere to stand in queue to get the TL, it would have been a time consuming and ardous task. When viewed in that light, to get the TL in under one hour was just sweet service to my mind. EDITED The next day, he got a friend of his to bring a taxi to the Hotel where I was staying. Incidentally I stayed at Meera Inn opposite RBI, which is quite a decent joint. We went to SAF and he waited outside. No mobile phone is allowed inside. Since I knew about it EDITED, I had left mine at the Hotel. Anyway all that we have to carry is our valid licence, the no objection certificate from our local police commissioner, the TL and the letter from SAF. They make us wait in a hall, and get us to fill in certain forms/registers essentially once again giving our licence details, noc details etc. By 11 am you are out with your revolver. They also put on a CD showing the parts of the revolver and how to clean it etc. I picked up some ammo also from kanpur and then made my return journey. Now I am trying to find a way to get some shooting practice. That is when I came to know that KSRA requires me to get a police verification done once again. Sigh!! .
Some tips are that:
I heard FGK has a smaller waiting period only three weeks. At SAF it is two and a half months. Again near Kalyan also there is some Ordinance Factory where they issue 0.32 revolver, but the waiting period is again three months. Anyway I didnt know about this kalyan place. Else I would have opted for it. Kanpur as a city, sorry folks, is a mighty poor place to stay or sight see. Of course, I made a trip to Lucknow which was worthwhile.
So thats it folks.
Cheers
