How to achieve a matt type of finish on a CJ3B jeep?

Am having a 1962 CJ3B & trailer repainted. Thinking of a sand type beige colour. I would like matt type of finish. The paint shop I spoke to has only paints with glossy finish which I am not keen on.

Any suggestions which company sell matt type of automobile paint or how can one achieve matt finish?

Looks like you are going for the "fauji" look... IIRC matte finish can be achieved if you don't get it "rubbed" after painting. Some of the newer paints do not require any rubbing for the glossy finish, needless to say avoid these... will ask my local mechanic for more inputs... sorry for not being able to be of more help...

If I'm not mistaken the army uses non-gloss paint for their vehicles. You could try locating the suppliers.

A friend of mine is into WW2 vehicles. Hes just completed a Willys in matte Sand color, I'll ask him how he did it.

Use a flat or matte finish paint. If your shop can't order it supply it for them

If you can get the brands of US manufactured paint, let me know which brands you can get and then I'll find out what the recommended paints are from those manufacturers.

An alternative is to simply use a quality exterior enamel that comes in Matte.

About the paint, just remember to use a low quality thinner with your paint so you will automatically get a dull finish

A quick search says that ICI has a relationship with Dupont, and at least carries Dupont Dulux enamel. I really like that paint, painted a ton of stuff with it, from cars and vans to tackle boxes. I'll call a Dupont distributor Monday and ask him to recommend some products, and maybe you can see if they are available somewhere in India.

Here's a "cheap paint thinner" story-

When I was in High school a friend and I painted his car (plymouth duster). We used odds and ends he could find laying around. The car got painted a maroon red, and we were scavenging thinner from old cans. Well, one of the cans must have been contaminated because the entire car developed an "orange peel" surface. Since it was uniform over the entire car it just looked weird and not too half-assed. Anyway about 6 months later he crashes it into some bushes and tears up the front fender. He took it to the body shop where the owner looked at the car and said he could reproduce the color, but not the finish!
