Re: New Hunting Knife
The mizo Bowie is 13 3/4 " in length.I suggested a 25cm Puukko as a direct comparison with the 9` Mizo `Bowie` - which is actually about an inch shorter. The 25 cm Puukkos have a similar blade shape to a straight machete and make excellent multi-purpose `camp` knives - a LOT better than a curly `Bowie`.
Well I havent used an HI Kobra but I have read reviews by experts who have tested most of the common HI models along with comparisons with other ethnic and modern blade styles. They had concluded that The Kobra is excellent at bruch clearance. It is no secret that the Kobra is not a traditional style but it is definitely based on one the"sirupati".It is just a slimmmed down refined version of the sirupati.Ah yes, the ubiquitous HI Kobra: Have you ever used one ? It`s a fighting design based on a long Sirupati and as such is possibly the most useless Khukri design of all for brush clearance as the narrow blade lacks weight - especially towards the point. I don`t care what the `expert` opinion on the knife forums is as most of those people have never directly compared a Kobra with a more traditional form of Khukri. Go to Nepal and see what is in daily use there - it`s most likely to be an Ang Chola or even the much derided M43 pattern. One thing you definitely won`t see is anything resembling a HI Kobra.
I myself own an HI BGRS,an HI sirupati, and an HI Gelbu Special.
Regards,
Yaj.

As Dodger says, Heinnie has the semi-skinner .... and Moonraker knives do one of the two.
There is a wood handled version but that`s £92 more expensive.........which has to rate as the most expensive couple of bits of wood ever !

Yaj, just at this moment I`m trying to figure out if I am suffering from a bout of deja vu or if you are trying to take the mickey.
Maybe you should go back and read what I said ?
As I had already stated that the HI Kobra was based on the long Sirupati, what is the point of you telling me the same thing ? I also said that I don`t care what the so called experts say about the HI Kobra - I`ve used one and they are crap compared to a more traditional form of Khukri. The long - 2 ft or more - Sirupati is a fighting knife......or short sword and is very light for its length so rather poor for brush clearance. The shorter Sirupatis have a different style of blade.
I thought the Mizo `Bowie` was 13 3/4" overall with a 9" blade ?
I have to admit that I wouldn`t be anything like as scathing of the Mizo `Bowie` if it was called something else..........Let`s be honest, whatever it is, it isn`t a Bowie. An alternative name wouldn`t make the knife any more useful but would make it a lot less annoying to my grumpy ears.
