Greetings,
I am looking forward to buy a Lever action rifle for myself and I am not very well aware about rifles.
I have a 7.62mm pistol with me and a big fan of lever action rifles.
May I get any good suggestions on which imported non prohibited bored rifle should I go for?
I also need to know which caliber and rifle brand is easier to maintain and will not make a hole in my wallet.
Plus, availability of cartridges is a issue in India as importing cartridges is really very expensive.
Kindly, give me advice, what rifle I should buy.
No bolt action rifle suggestion please.
Suggestions on NPB Lever (Clutch) action rifles.

Hi , Romal you can get Winchester model 92 and model 94 in the market in 44.40 and 30.30 cal , if you search you might find Savage model 99 in 30.30 and .250 , As far as Ammo goes you can find 30.30 with few dealers , few years back in UP it came around 250 Rs a pop , Rifles in lever action are not costly , few years back a winchester model 94 in 30.30 came around 60-75k , I own a model 94 in 30.30
The best would be if you can find savage model 99 in 30.30.
Regards

Re: Suggestions on NPB Lever (Clutch) action rifles.
Many years ago, I had an 1895 Winchester. It was a fun gun, and ingeniously designed. It came in 30-40 (most common, and what mine was chambered for) 303, 7.62x54r, and 405.(Think of 405 as a straight walled 30-40). They were also chambered in 30-03 and 30-06, but these rounds were pushing the design to the very limit.
Other than that, note that most lever guns were chambered for cartridges that are shorter, due to the demands on the repeating action of cartridge length. So, you find Savage 99s and Browning BLRs and the like chambered in rounds like 308, which, of course, can't normally be owned in India.
30-06, of course, is quite handily available in India, and other rounds perhaps not so available. I'm afraid that you have a dilemma.
