The swivel hood protects the delicate front sight, and the geometry of the existing base didn't allow the hood to swivel 180 degrees, but gave an excellent sight picture at 90 degrees

IN CONCLUSION

While I enjoyed making this small modification, I must be the first to admit, that with my aging eyes, and cataract surgery in both eyes, I am unable to see the iron sights properly

Fortunately, the scope field of view is not disturbed by the sights.

Ideally I should be looking at a low powered Prismatic scope for a clearer picture

The Patridge sight gives about the best sight picture one can obtain, short of aperture sights and optical devices. This looks like a real improvement to me.

Your point about eyes and the effects of aging is a sad but true statement about our human condition. For me, it highlights the personal challenge of shooting, in that it's not a competition with others about who is "best," but rather a competition with myself to do my best. This aspect of firearms and shooting is what is so appealing.

Thanks for sharing your interesting improvement!

Absolutely stunning modification sir. New stock and express rear sight adds to the charm. If possible share about the making of blueing solution.
Did you get the formula for the bluing solution?? Check YouTube channel BackYard Ballistics... has done a lot of projects with different bluing methods. I have tried the NaOH and KNO3 method, good finish

Sir, this is most detailed article regarding IOF .30-06 rifle modification I have ever came across. You have done really great and all that hard work paid off with sub MOA accuracy. 8)

Thank you Sniper. I do gunsmithing only as a hobby. Posted that thread simply because I find the utter ignorance among the so called gunsmiths in India apalling. The details of the rust blue are given in the post. However if you need additional information I shall be happy to share. PM me. I do not log on frequently so excuse for the delay in responding.
All the best.
