Cold Steel Kukri's, IMHO are made in Taiwan. Dont know if they are making them in India, would be interesting if their San Mai Kukris were made in India.

Thamel main market road in Kathmandu has some sparkling fashionable Khukhri shops . Khukhris in all sizes and material . Reasonable prices and they're also open to negotiation. Back narrow alleys of Thamel has some very exotic items available for a connoisseur . Examples being Khukhri with ivory handles having intricate carvings , Khukhri with a sheath covered in squirrel tail . Some items are even so classic that they simply refuse to sell and keep them for show purposes only.

It's great to see so much passion being put into the nepalese khukuri market and trying to find what's the best in Thamel and in other areas.
Especially when you consider the difficulty of importing blades from Nepal into India it's close to the most convenient option if you want to get your hands on an authentic blade.



We've been mentioned previously in the thread so thought we'd chip in with a bit more information on how to reach us if needed.
Unlike many of the other mentioned shops here we don't have a dedicated showroom in thamel or similar. Instead we have a small showroom attached to our workshop in Buddhamarga, Lalitpur (an outer suburb of kathmandu). A downside is that it's a little out of the way, an upside is that you can see the blades being forged



As the majority of our work is custom we don't hold a lot of stock items so it's best to get in touch in advance so we can help you out as best as possible. If you message us on facebook or instagram a week or so before you're in Kathandu we can arrange a time for a workshop tour, get you a phone number to discuss what kind of blade you'd like or even start work on your blade so that we can align your visit with when it's finished, just being forged or getting quenched. Whatever you'd prefer.

Such a joy to read your post Thanks for the information. Who will not wish to see Khukuris in the manufacturing process!!!! As soon as provate vehicles are allowed cross border , the tourism shall resume . Best wishes to Nepali brothers

The border closures have definitely hurt Nepal's economy a lot. It won't take too long until things are back to normal though. Would love to see you for a visit when we can.
After posting previously I've spoken with the team a little about the challenges of sending blades to India and any solutions we might have. We have a shipping option we're testing out currently to see how viable it is. If you're looking for a blade and are okay with helping us test it out send us a message through facebook. If all goes well it'll make it a lot easier to get beautiful handmade blades to our indian brothers.

I believe the only authentic and handforged Kukri are made by Himalayan Imports
https://wildproofgear.com/best-kukri/ – all other stuff that is being sold on Amazon is obviously manufactured. Handmade item cannot cost like $60-100.
They are still doing their chopping bushes at the backyard well, but if you want a genuine handcrafted Kukri you don’t expect to find that on Amazon, Ebay etc…

While I agree that low prices would definitely suggest the use of CNC machines or stamping etc I can confirm that there's only a handful of houses in nepal using this technology. KHHI and Gurkhasblades come to mind though I think they do have a lot that's still handforged within their product range.

For these particularly low cost, amazon nepalese made khukuris unfortunately the explanation is that their craftsmen won't be getting paid very much. Money can also be saved through cheaper materials and cutting corners during processes.

If the blades are being manufactured within india then that's outside my area of knowledge sorry.
