Age of a imported gun

Post by chicky » Sun Jan 21, 2024 5:43 am

Hi Friends,

Just wanted a discussion and point of views on the reliability and value of an imported hand gun which is over 60 years old. As we all know the import of guns was restricted from 1984 onwards so most weapons available in India are older than manufactured in 1984.
Is it worth buying a gun which is over 60 years old ? does the years gone by affect the metallurgy or mechanism ?
Ofcourse how often it has been used will make a difference or if it's an alloy but what if the weapon is in a very good nick and say it is 80 years old , is it still purchasable as a good reliable sidearm ?

Thanks

Chucky

Hi Chucky. I have used a Colt .32 pistol which is 65 to 70 yrs old roughly. I have fired about 50 rounds in last 2 years. it has never failed to fire and trigger works well and loading ejection mechanism always worked. Used IOF rounds only. It is reasonably accurate over 10 meters only. So if machinery is good in condition then it can keep working with usual maintenance n cleaning.
