Any reasons why the Malhotra Sons is priced 1.25L more?
Lack of competition I guess. Price may come down after the launch of Webley .45.
Besides lack of competition it was the almost negligible sale. The stupid gun prices in the market were prevalent due to lack of supply. Also people are/were willing to pay stupid sums of money because guns kept on appreciating on the backs of 0 supply and a steady increase in the number of new people who got licenses and were then in the market for firearms. So the feeling was that even if a firearm is expensive today it would, in a couple of years, increase in value and you would not lose money. That would no longer be the case in the future,
There is nothing magical about making a firearm. There is no new technology only new designs, new materials, new ways of machining parts and an improvement in metallurgy and more precise heat treatment as compared to when the guns that are floating around in the market were made. India already has a good base in manufacturing. All it required was for the government to allow the manufacture of arms by private entities. All these new entrants Malhotra Sons, Webley et all are welcome. Eventually market forces will drive prices to more reasonable levels.
We would have well made guns manufactured in the country itself in the near future. Somehow I am not enthused by the news of dealers importing guns and selling them in the local market. It is unfair to those who have put in money and effort to make guns and undermines the governments declared objective of making India Atam nirbhar.
