Remembrance, IFG member, sa_ali

Post by mundaire » Sun Jun 20, 2021 12:00 am

It is with a heavy heart that I have to inform all of you that our long time member sa_ali passed away today, after an extended battle with covid19/ wuhan virus/ China virus.

I had the good fortune to know him over the years, though our acquaintace was limited to our time together at the range.

He was one of the most positive people I would meet at the range, always optimistic and upbeat, not to mention, ever helpful and looking out to assisting other newcomers.

Even though we were acquainted online for many years, we met for the first time at the Delhi range 2011-12 or thereabouts. I was at the range with a rental beretta (from the range authorities) and he had with him the khairuddin over/ under, which he'd posted about here in detail. That was our first offline meeting.

Over the next several years, we'd bump into each other at the range and have long animated conversations, as one would expect amongst kindered spirits. He had picked double trap as his sport of choice, while I was shooting skeet.... but there was always time between rounds to meet friends and we would often connect to share stories and challenges as we both were working towards getting the required "renowned shot" scores.

The last time we met, was at the 2020 Delhi state match, where I was chaperoning my son and Ali was trying out his brand new Beretta 694 (his very first import as a renowned shot). Ali had qualified as a renowned shot in the 2019 Nationals and was excited about his newfound access to guns & ammo, and was looking forward to finally be able to introduce his daughter to the sport.

Our last interaction was about 10-11 days after Eid in May, when he replied to my WhatsApp message, to let me know that he was in recovery, though still on NIV, as always he had a positive attitude even then. This news of today is absolutely devastating.

I can't even begin to imagine the sorrow and challenges his family must be facing and can only pray that the almighty grant them the strength to bear this irreparable loss.

I spoke with him a few times on the phone. Seemed like a very nice person. Our tiny shooting community will be less after his demise.

What a terrible loss, for us as a community and for his family. I had not met with him but had interacted with him on many occasions on IFG when I was evaluating an Indian shotgun. He was always keen to share his experience.

Condolences to his family and very sorry to hear the news.
