3006 buying tips

hi,
after all the work i finally got my 3006 license, people have suggested me to go for iof rather than a import due to its price, and now i want to know how to buy one, some are saying iof 3006 manufactured after 2014 are not great and others are quoting 3 lakhs for a modified 2011 iof, but i want to buy a new one just for 1.24 lakhs, so kindly guide me how to select a new one from a dealer also tell me if its s really worth a updone 3006 for 3 lakhs

Well, I own an IOF 30.06. You will definitely need to get it modified to accept a picatinny rail if you are planning to scope it. It presently comes with a dovetail mount for a rear peep sight and puny 3mm holes for scope mounts. The furniture is plain and functional but ugly to look at so it needs to be modified on aesthetic grounds. The barrel, receiver and magazine come painted. Again, on aesthetic grounds, you would need to get the barrel and magazine blued. The receiver is aluminium, so it would require anodizing or cerakote to get rid of the paint. The rifle is super accurate out of the box, using plain iron sights upto 300m. The magazine and chamber are fussy about ammunition . The bolt is not smooth and will also require some work. The rifle kicks quite a bit and would require a suitable butt pad. All these cost money . But definitely worth it when compared to 10L plus old and used foreign rifles available. The 30.06 is a straight rip-off of the Sauer 202.

Now you must have a two year puchase period for your licence. Enqire about the availablity of IOF 3006 , price inclusive of taxes. If they quote anything above 10 % 0f the NRAI sale price, go for it otherwise wait for someone who wants to change his IOF 3006 for a flashy Phoren one . Please do not rush for it. Moreover due to the pandemic situation, it is advisable to wait for the all clear.

you guessed it right, i actually extended the purchase time period by 1 year quoting corona;-)

thank you so much but how much should all these mods cost s still uncertain and also my question on how to select a new rfle checking if defective and also comment on rifle manufactured after 2014 are not nice please

For a regular gunsmith, say about a 75K to a lakh. For the top guns in Patiala and Hyderabad, budget 2L plus.

Go for the new IOF .30-06 Rifle. As stated above by our esteemed members, the rifle is accurate out of the box. You can modify it as per your requirements. I believe in practicality and utility, so I went for the following mods to get 1.4 MOA groups at 100 and 200 yards. Earlier I was getting 1.5 or 1.6 :-
1. Attached a Picatinny Rail on top of Dovetail from a renowned gunsmith in Chandigarh.
2. Moved front Sling Stud forward by 3 inches. It was done by a local carpenter. Now bipod gives more stability to the rifle.
3. Filed the front wood stock from inside to have a free-floating barrel. It is crude but now I can pass a Banknote between the barrel and the stock. The area under the rear iron sight required some more work.

Attaching Picatinny rail was around Rs. 10,000/- including the cost of the rail. The local carpenter charged almost nothing.
