Starting out

Post by Nick61298 » Sun Nov 22, 2020 10:16 pm

Hello everyone!
I've just begun my journey and picked up an air pistol. I want to pick up an air rifle and I was wondering if the diana magnum 460 is a good bet. I have a budget upto 60k.

This is solely for recreational purposes and I practice with cans in my backyard. How else can I use my air pistol/rifle for recreation i.e. plinking, etc. Where can I use it in india outside my home?
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to IFG and congratulations on your air pistol.

Just take care not to be seen by nosey neighbours when plinking in your backyard. Not illegal but there are enough ignorant people around. Do you have a range in your area? You can consider joining it, if there is one?

Thank you! I do have a range that isnt exactly in the vicinity but I'm guessing I need to be a member. I reside in chennai.
I'm still envious of the people who go out and shoot in the wild in the states :)

Re, which air rifle to buy, there are a couple of decent Indian made options available which do not require a 60K budget. Go through older posts on those topics. once you are comfortable with them, may be then you can think of stepping up with more knowledge and experience in your quiver?

Oh! I will look for a few indian ones then. I just thought it would be a good one time investment. Thanks again sir!

Welcome Nick !!

Are you going to buy D460 as first air rifle ?
I own one & D460 is a Magnum springer and needs lot of cocking efforts , kicks like a mule and difficult to shoot that way and needs more practice. so if I want to shoot 20 shots with a hammer power I'll use D460 but if I want to shoot 100 shots plinking or may be pesting I'll look for my HW95 OR 50 OR SDB Artemis

If you are planning for recreational or fun shooting and looking for a imported gear I would look for Diana 34 ..good German gun and enough power , you can shoot her all day , super accurate as well .

There are also SDB Xena and Precihole Nx200 from Indian market which are remarkable guns to shoot all day and equally accurate !!

If it's your first air rifle I would advise on getting any of these 3 above , may be I will start with Indian gun and then look how far the addiction goes ;)

Cheers

For 60k ,you can buy both an Indian made Springer and a PCP Air rifle.AR's from Precihole,GARE and SDB perform on par with imported ones while maintaining power under legal limit of 15ftlbs.

Thank you sir! Are gamo rifles any good ? I have heard they jave plastic bits that can break easily, etc. The 10x mechanism of loading the pellets seems very appealing.

Thank you for your input sir! The diana 460 just seemed like a timeless classic and a one time investment, hence I wanted to go for it. Another option was the gamo 10x replay but ive been hearing that they arent very sturdy and isnt built to last. I was told the diana is the equivalent of a mercedes. You can never go wrong with them. Although I will definitely do my research on the ones that you have mentioned. Thanks a ton for all your guidance!
This was very helpful :)

Welcome to the club, Nick! I have two Preciholes - NX 100 Polaris, and VX 100 Spartan. Where do you shoot in Chennai?

I have a Precihole SP60 air pistol & enjoy plinking in my garden.

Diana & Weihrauch have far superior built than Gamo. If given an option i would choose Weihrauch over Diana.

I just plink in my backyard, or the semi-abandoned park close to home. Old metal plates and paint tins as targets.
