Now that the Defence Minister has announced an embargo on import of 101 items used by our armed forces, including assault rifles and sniper rifles, will we see the entry of foreign firms by way of setting up manufacturing plants in India?

The requirement of assault rifles by our armed forces should be sizeable enough to make this a viable proposition.

Are the huge defence procurement programmes likely to induce foreign manufacturers to set up production facilities in India?
