Result of Not Holding onto the Barrel/Cocking Lever

We should remember at all times to hold on to the barrel, or cocking lever in case of an under-lever model, while cocking an air rifle. If not, accidents can happen and the results can be serious. I would say that the person here got away easily. Serious bodily harm is not unusual. Be careful!

I find it much safer to break the breech open and load the pellet before cocking it. This way you always have both hands free to secure the rifle while cocking it.

Sirs,
As mentioned by Hillsman, it is better to break the barrel, load the pellet and then proceed for cocking the air rifle/air pistol.
So, no risk of getting injured.
Also, during the process of cocking, the finger should be out of the trigger guard.

Muzzle discipline and trigger discipline obviate most of the problems.

I wish I had a photograph of what happens to the barrel in such circumstances !
It can look like a BANANA !
The kinetic force bends the barrel up after it shuts tight .
My friend has had to bash/hit with a hammer many barrels in order to bring them back to being usable .
This lack of concentration when shooting is very common .
The hammer process is painful - hitting a barrel feels like it should never be done , but a tap , tap , tap until the barrel bends back is achievable .
As for the wood stock - even that can be saved - but that much glue is expensive !
