How to sharpen a knife

Post by penpusher » Sat Sep 08, 2007 10:45 pm

1.How do you find out at what angle to sharpen the knife and then maintain the right angle so that the edge does not get rounded.

2.What do you need to sharpen the knife.

3.Is the sharpening process different for stainless steel knives as compared to an ordinary steel knife

Anything else that is essential for a novice to know before he/she begins the entire process.

penpusher,

I am hitting the sack but have a look at the video on this site. This is the knife sharpner that I am going to get when funds permit.

The Lansky is another good sharpener. It is what I use & I am quite pleased with it. The only problem I have with knife sharpeners is finding good oil for them at a decent price. You can see the Lansky here. http://www.lanskysharpeners.com/outdoor.php
There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor polite, nor popular -- but one must ask, "Is it right?"
