[quote="SARGE7402"]First a very nice weapon. It's not an 1889 New Army, but an 1895 as shown by the cylinder locking bolt notches in the cylinder. The 1889 locked at ther ear of the cylinder like the 1877 Lightning. Secondly it's not chambered for a .38 Special, but for the .38 Long Colt which originally used a heeled bullet (like the modern .22) but later used a hollow based bullet of .358 diameter. You would most likely be safe shooting .38 Special Hollow Based Wad Cutters, but I'd be leary of using regular full power .38 Special Loads.[2/quote]
Thanks...it is a 1889 Navy...I am wondering whether I can shoot .38 IOF rounds through it. Not sure if they are equivalent to .38 Special loads.

Re: Colt .38
Congrats.
HOwever you should be aware that ammo for this pistol may be hard to find. It will fire either the .38 Short or Long Colt rounds. It is most likely not safe to fire with .38 Special rounds as they are substantially more powerful.
