first of all i agree that the iof .315 bullet is not a good bullet, if the iof factory can make a few changes believe me the .315 or 8mm cartridge is very flat shooting and accurate-- so if the iof guys r listening here goes--
1) instead of a 244 gr projectile use a 140-180 gr one, either semi hollow pt , hard nose or soft nose will do ....
2) try and make the bullets rimless so ull have better feeding of cartrgs in the action(so smoother action), and the magazine wont stick out so much from the stock...
all said and done, iv used the german rimless 8mm rifle and our venerable old iof 315/8mm, the german one is hardly got a kick and very accurate while our iof is a mule though surprisingly accurate once u master it- i still own the iof and am happy with it, not too happy wid the cartgs though.
by the way i live in maharashtra any good guaranteed gunsmiths who can giv my old iof .315 a good bluing and new light n strong stock???
also where can i get some side mounts and a scope for my iof .315 in india??

The 10-round Lee-Enfield magazine will accept seven rounds of 8x50R Mannlicher /.315 cartridges, as it would of your 7.62x54R.

I would not recommend buying the IOF .315 Rifle.
The Quality is not the same as it was 7+ years earlier.
It is an excellent Cartridge/Bore.
There are however issues with the IOF Rifle (Bolt, Feeding, Ejection, Magazine etc.).
The famous Lakhpat Singh Rawat has shot numerous Man Eaters with this Rifle.
He has killed 51 Man-Eaters (49 Leopards and 2 Tigers).
Even most Gun Shops have stopped selling the IOF 315 Rifle, as there were frequent complaints from the Buyers.
I personally love the .315 Cartridge, it is heavier than the 30.06, but has lesser Velocity (Ft./S) and Energy (Ft. Lbf).

Go for iof .30-06. The iof .30-06 has some minor problems like the bolt movement is not very smooth and sometimes there is feeding problem. Buy .30-06 and get the minor problems done by a good gunsmith who knows his work.

I like the full stock model ....the .315 was made in the first place because civilians could not get their hands on the .303 which has full stock...the .315 with full stock would look very similar to the .303 as the .315 action is also very similar to the .303 rifle
