The mahseer's not going to have acidity anytime soon ;)

You used Gelusil to ground bait as well?

As usual a great trip and story. Sanjay has amazing fishing even at the pump house. From now on let his man name be 'dances with fish'. ;-)

bird eggs....

Post by sat » Wed Sep 05, 2007 11:37 am

I think the eggs are of a Pheasant-tailed Jacana Hydrophasianus chirurgus

Jacanas are a group of waders in the family Charadriidae that are identifiable by their huge feet and claws which enable them to walk on floating vegetation in shallow lakes, their preferred habitat. The Pheasant-tailed Jacana is capable of swimming, although it usually walks on the vegetation. The females are more colourful & larger than the males.

jacanas breed on floating vegetation from March to July. In southern India, it breeds in the monsoon season, June-September. They are polyandrous and a female may lay up to 10 clutches.

No idea. It's relatively old, so it could have been made in the U.S.A.

Ah, somehow missed this one... Must thank Dhruv, Ken and Sanjay for allowing me to tag along and "mentoring" me so very patiently... :)

Well, am quite enthusiastic after that 1 time... A catch (however small) does get one's interest going... In fact spent 2 whole evenings in Jaipur (this weekend) talking fishing with Shooter's dad... he used to hunt regularly when it was legal, but since the ban has restricted himself to angling... and he's a treasure trove of wisdom on both subjects :) Look forward to trying out his tips on the fish next time around... as well as the bait he so very kindly insisted I take and use when going for Sol/ Sawal next time around....

Cheers!
