Help in Stripping/Disassembling IOF .30-06 Sporting Rifle

Post by sumbriavikramaditya » Thu Nov 15, 2018 6:37 pm

Hi guys,

I have been enjoying my rifle since I bought it. I have been able to clean its barrel and bolt. Recently I bought a Harris Bipod. To attach it to my rifle I need to install new sling studs. For that I need to take out the front wood furniture. I searched YouTube for videos showing stripping of Sauer 202 and IOF .30-06 Rifle. But only thing I didn't get was the exact tool which is inserted into the holes in the front and butt stock. I bought a large screwdriver instead and it won't go in. Please help in this issue. I even searched this forum but I can't find anything about the tool. It would be helpful if someone can upload a picture of the tool or its specifications.

Regards
Vikramaditya Singh.

Here are the pics of screw under the recoil pad. The screw had broken therefore I had to open it. Can't help you with the front screw as of now.

No special tool is required. Correct size screwdriver will unscrew it.

You will require an Hexagon/Hex/Allen Key T Handle XL 300mm ( 12" ) to open the bolt securing the front furniture. A gunsmith who repairs IOF 30-06 rifle should have it. Looks something like this

Hi Chengy, please provide the dimensions. What is the size of this Hex Key?

You can open it with long screw driver also.screw in forehand have cut on it's head for screw driver(screw driver should be long and thin).if you want to open it open with elen key then 5 mm is size(in my rifle).try it with thin long screw driver first if that doesn't help reply here and i will post photos(screw is exactly like Vineet posteed except it thinner then butt screw)
