Doubts about Bolt Action Remo Shotgun (Mauser German)

Hi,
This is my first post. I am yet to get the License, but I hope to get the same in the coming week since the hearing with the ADM is over a couple of weeks back.

The reason of my post is to understand if anyone is familiar with the Remo (Google says Mauser), it's a bolt action gun. It was in my family for almost 30 years, not sure of where it was bought from. It's being transferred to me in the family heirloom transfer post me getting the license.

1. Does this come originally with a magazine that carries 4-6 catridges ? I remember my Dad telling me that it had a magazine and that they lost it while on a hunting trip

2. Is it possible to source the same from within India?

3. If it's not possible to source the part, is there any gunsmith who can make it for me ?

Appreciate the experienced members sharing their views on the same.

PS: found these pics on the web which are almost identical to the gun ( gun is deposited at an armoury and hence can't take pics as of now)

Got the License and the weapon today.

The stock has a crack on it.

The cartridge is not getting extracted while you pull the bolt back.

Can somebody help me here.. I need a good gunsmith in Kerala, ideally in Kochi or Kottayam

Did the gun belong to your father or relative?

The mauser design is know for its reliable extraction and ejection. The older mausers have to be loaded from the magazine, if you put a round in the chamber and close the bolt then the extractor claw is forced over the cartridge rim and damaged if repeated many times.

I think they originally came with a 2 shot magazine.

It is possible that the extractor is damaged. There were some good gunsmiths in Calicut when i was there but think they have all closed shop.

It may be next to impossible to procure a magazine in India. I have seen a few Geha / Remo Mauser based shotguns here in North America.

The Gun was originally my Dad's. We had it in the family for many years now. As you rightly pointed out, the tip of the extractor is broken and its not gripping the cartridge while you pull the lock. I just got the gun yesterday. I will definitely search hard for a good gunsmith and get this fabricated or rectified. I will search for a guy who makes the stock and bring back the gun to it's old Glory

If at all you manage to get a normal Mauser '98 extractor from the US, an expert gunsmith can reshape it to fit on the rim of the shot shell. try fixing the rim into the extractor manually and then load if Once done, like the Mauser action was designed to do. A good smith can also bevel the extractor to ride the rim while closing the bolt as done on most dangerous game rifles. Next project, you could procure a Mauser floor plate and spring If you have contacts and alter it to feed.. IMHO.

Thanks for the reply.. I had found a website which sells the part in US, but skeptical if it will be of the same Gun. It says Mauser Geha.. will check with my friends or relatives who live there.

So, if my understanding is correct, the floorplate with the spring will solve the issue of loading two shots at one go.

Is the attached pic (1)the part that extracts the empty catridges ? And 2 And 3 are the floor plate and spring ..

Have also asked a cousin of mine to check in Delhi or his contacts in the airforce or Army

A very unique Gun,
Seems to be well restored.
I think it has 2&3/4 Inch Chamber.
There were quite a few Mauser K98 which were converted into Bolt Action Shot-Gun.

Hey Vikram,

I am from Kerala, I got it done through an Armoury near Pala in Kottayam Dist., - PC Chacko ( Bharananganam)..
Although it took some time, except for the magazine, everything else works just fine.. The Magazine needs some fine tuning ..

Think its german mauser convert in shotgun, basic single shot in 410
In Russia many this peace of scrap. In 1945-1950 many K-98 be converted
People in Russia give name this shit shotgun - "frolovka"

Restoration cool,but for what? more better buy new ashani shotgun! Ashani is shit but more better then this!
