snIPer... I meant it as a joke.. anyways.. IHP springs may sometimes last for an year and sometimes poop out at a few hundred shots... The consistency and dependability of these springs is yet to improve by leaps and bounds

I have recently changed the main spring on a .22 air rifle from an old ISW make to the GSmith one. Seemed slightly expensive but felt its smoother. Have done about 90 shots on this new spring.. and will post more feedback when I cross 500 pellets...

i keep cocked my huricaine mod 16 for about 24 hours & there is no drop in fps , vibrations , recoil . also there is no change in spring length.

Dear sagar12345,
I understood you kept your Hurricane mod 16 cocked for 24 hrs but you did it intentionally or by mistake?
What is the original length of spring?
What is the maximum fps generated by Hurricane with standard weight pellets?
I too wish to buy it due to its build quality.
Thanks.

10 days ago i have changed my IHP 35.22 orignle spring with gsmith 35 spring..when i installed it it was 3 inchs large then ihp spring..
it recoil & vibrate too much so to decrease it i cocked my gun for 4 hours..after that recoil-vibration-power is same nothing changed..so i opened the rifle and checked the lenth of the gmith spring is same as ihp...3 inch less

Re: How long do you keep your springer cocked?
if preload of spring is high, then it maybe affected by cocked time. But if it has less pre load, it can be kept cocked without affecting the spring characteristics.Thatswhy tuners prescribe cutting some coils of spring.but mostly power hungry guys dont want to waste those few coils and end up changing the whole spring sooner than a tuned spring.
With regards,

Dear VSraja,
The term coil bound is perfect here to ascertain the effect of cocked time instead of preload. It is preferable to keep little less than coil bound state to decrease the stress and increase life of spring.
The effect of coil bound depends largely on the material of wire and its making procedure.
Thanks.

Better to keep the gun loaded for operational readiness but uncocked.targetpoint wrote:Dear VSraja,

Just before the shot cock it and fire.
I have punished unruly spring by cocking it 6 hours twice.
Some spring lose length by huge margin some do not.
Those who are losing more than 15% of it's original length , they are good for accuracy but unfriendly for power.
A total coilbound state of spring reduces life much early.
