Effect of rotating cheek plate of rifle

Effect of rotating cheek plate of rifle

I have a feinwerkbau 800x air rifle. It has a rotatable cheek plate. Since in the no rotation configuration, my cheek doesnt sit comfortably on it, i am thinking about rotating the cheek plate. Can anyone explain the effect of this rotation on my balance and other aspects.
I read somewhere that the axis of cheek plate should be parallel to that of barrel. Why is it so?
