hey, i have suddenly developed some terrible symptoms of 'gunneria'. I've got an itch to hold and feel Abhijeet's new gun... NOW !!
Me desires to have thy-like gun... and beware, Abhijeet, I might also run away with yours...
Will the good Doc (or anybody else in the world) prescribe something for me ??

Airgun import experiences - via personal baggage route
Hi Guys,
Hmmm Here is the story Guys
US Happenings:
I called Lufthansa at least a month ago my departure to ask them how to carry an air gun. They informed me about requirements of a Hard case and I need to declare rifle at the time of checking in at airport. I told that to Mehul and we bought a very beautiful double rifle case from Gander Mountain. After coming back to Hotel I again called Lufthansa and told tem size of my case in case its oversize or anything. Girl at call center Okayed the size and confirmed that I don't have to pay anything extra.
On 11th evening (One day before my departure) by chance I accessed my itnary online and found out that they added $200 because of extra size of my bag which to be collected at airport. I called Lufthansa at airport and they said I have to pay extra $200 if i carry that bag and they can't do anything.. Panic attak..Called Mehul, Mehul said he will be at Hotel and we will change the bag first thing in the morning.
As promised Mehul was there at Hotel at 8:00 clock and we were at Gander Mountain at 9:00AM but things never go easy for me so the guys there told us that they are not opening till 10:00AM because of some renovation work, Hmmmmm what to do, Nearby Macdonald came to rescue Mehul and I decided to have some breakfast at MacD and pass time, so we chatted about IFG, trolls at IFG and one hour passed just like that.. At sharp 10:00AM we were at the door of Gander Mountain again, Thank God people in US don't have any superstitions of not changing or returning things in morning like Indian shopkeepers we were out at 10:15 with a changed bag (NOt as beautiful as earlier one )
Straight back to Hotel and then straight to Airport..No problems at Airport at all, I was asked to go to TSA office, they scanned my rifle case, Made sure its not loaded, congratulated me for a beautiful rifle, marked it as special baggage and
that’s it, no question, no grilling nothing..and I am off US without any problem.
Reached INDIA
On 13th Night.. No problems at Immigration..
Waiting for baggage to come, and first came the rifle case with a custom official.
Custom Official: You carrying a Rifle?
Me: Yes sir,
Custom Official: Give me your passport?
Me: Handed over my passport.
Custom Official: Meet us in commissioner office when you get all your baggage.
All of a sudden, everybody around me is looking at me with suspicious eyes and the Aunty who ate my mind all way from Frankfurt is no where to be seen.. Passed around 15 more minutes dealing with strange looks got my bags and got to Custom Office.
Custom commissioner: what is this?
Me: Air rifle sir.
Custom commissioner ordered his officer to confiscate the air rifle and left
Hmmmmmmm I sensed now nothing can happen.. so I asked them to tell me the procedure.. They gave me a confiscation receipt and asked me to come tomorrow and get a letter for police commissioner for NOC.
14th Aug: I came back home at 3:00Am and was again at airport at 9:00AM, but I can't straight go to custom office, first need to have permission from Airport terminal manager and commanding officer of security forces at airport. So after one hour I was at customs office again, Officers there told me that they don't anything about my air rifle and they can't do anything.. Hmmmm so after half an hour of emotional talk, they said okay they will send letter to police commissioner today evening..
Came back home and got a call from them in the evening that they have dispatched a letter to police commissioner. so I decided to go to police commissioner office in the morning but as you all already know by now that things doesn't go easy for me.. so here i was playing football with my daughter and tried to hit the ball hit wall instead and pain make me realized that
something is broken, its already 10:30PM and no doctor will be available so just applied some Iodex and had some painkillers and went to sleep..
Next morning went to doctor and got the news that I can't move for at least 7-10days, Hmmmmmmm can't do anything now...
29th Aug: Still limping, I reached Police commissioner office. Straight to superintendent at arms department.. Without checking he told me that there is no letter from anybody and when i insisted him to look for it, He said he wants a copy of that letter or a dispatch number...
Its already 3:00PM and I need to go to office also so thinking that I will go to Airport tomorrow I got out of Police commissioner office.
30th Aug: 9:00AM I am at Airport, After all those permission rituals I am again at customs office, straightaway they told me that they can't give any copy, hmmmmmm time for emotional talks again and after at least 1 hour they agreed to give me copy.. I saw that copy is not very clear and some portion of it is cut but fearing that I will anger the customs Gods I came out and went back to police commissioner office (never realizing that I am making a big mistake)
Reached commissioner office again and showed them the copy, they searched there records and told me that there is no letter.. hmmmmm.. I sensed its that time again and somehow managed to get the work started.. Its 4:00 and work at police commissioner office is almost complete, clerk goes to superintendent and after looking at the file, superintendent says he can't sign as the copy is not well printed.. Next thing... I am again back on road waiting to get some auto to airport..
Reached airport at 4:45, straight to ATM room and then to Security control room and to Customs office, to my surprise they realized their mistake and give me another copy and all this took only 15 minutes, realizing that commissioner office close at 5:30 I decided to take my chances.. offered the auto driver 10 bucks extra if he can reach police commissioner office before 5:30 and there
I am at police commissioner office at exact 5:25 and all this at busiest time of the day on the busiest roads of Bangalore..
Till now superintendent has a special disliking for me but he agrees to sign and files go to commissioner for final sign, waited there for two hours next and at 7:30 I was out with two letters in my hand One marked to C.A.R and another to Custom commissioner ..
31st Aug: Decided to take my bike to C.A.R office as till now I was fed up arguing with Auto guys and paying too much money..Asked my watchman to start the bike as my foot is still not healed..and I am on my way to C.A.R office, reached Mysore road and realized its Jumma and a very busy traffic day at that side of town.. somehow reached C.A.R office after asking way at least a millions time and was told that A.C.P sir will go to airport with me and at present he is not in office.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaat A.C.P need to go with me.. At this time I almost gave up the hopes to see my beauty again thinking How in the hell will I manage to take a A.C.P with me... Asked the sentry there to start my bike and somehow I decided to call A.C.P on the number given to me by his PA and I was answered by a sweet voice on the other side. A.C.P told me to reach C.A.R office at 10:30 Next day...
31st Aug: Passed my night somehow and reached C.A.R office at 10:30 sharp in a taxi and were out at 10:45 with Mr.A.C.P and Armourer, talked about politicians on the way and miserable condition of shooting sports, reached airport around 11:30 and there I realized that even a officer of A.C.P rank have to go through loops of permission etc but anyhow we were in the customs office and after some customary inspection and dry firing of my air gun two times we were out within half an hour.
Mr.A.C.P promised me that he will send the report ASAP After saying good bye to the most down to earth uniformed officer I came across all my life and believe me I had my share interaction with uniformed officers both in olive and khaki
So after calling for two three days on 3rd evening I got the favorable answer from C.A.R office, Called police commissioner office on 4th, was told that there is no report still..
5th Aug: Decided not to call, I landed up again at police commissioner office again and at 11:00Am in the morning and I was out with the NOC at 5:00PM, Had a urgent meeting to attend so decided to go to airport next day.
6th Aug: Reached airport, paid duty and Out I was with my beauty...
Hope you guys are not bored reading all this.. I know I am.........
Process Once again:
1. When you reach INDIA custom will confiscate your air gun and will give you a receipt.
2. They will send a letter to Police commissioner.
3. Police commissioner office will send a request to C.A.R for inspection of gun.
4. An A.C.P rank officer will go with you to airport and inspect the gun.
5. C.A.R will send a report to police commissioner office.
6. Police commissioner office will give you the report
7. You have to go to Airport with the letter and 35% duty and 3% extra on that 35%
8. you can enjoy your rifle now.
Some tips:
1. Try to get the letter to police commissioner on the same time when customs confiscate your gun.
2. Please take some pellets with you when you go to Airport with police guys otherwise your rifle will be dry fired
And last but not the least NEVER EVER LOOSE YOUR COOL.. NEVER EVER SHOW AGGRESSION OF ANY KIND. there will be numerous moments when you think of punching people, but you can always do that once your rifle is out
Disclaimer: I AM NOT TRYING TO PUT ANYBODY OFF, THIS IS WHAT HAPPEND WITH ME AND WHAT ALL I CAN REMEMBER. THE CURRENT PROCESS AT BANGALORE RIGHT NOW, BELIEVE ME ITS NOT SO TEDIOUS AS IT SOUNDS YOU JUST NEED LOADS OF PATIENCE...
All I can sum up with..
Buying air gun abroad: Some hundred dollars
Indian process: Some thousand rupees
Holding your newly acquired beauty in your hands : PRICELESS
So go for it people, its not as tough as it sounds....
And A special Thanks to Mehul for helping me in US and Mack The Knife for guiding me at various points, I know words can't do much for what you did for me.. We need to get Mehul back here....
