It is impossible to have M1Garand for civilians ,however a person has got Law twisted and now the sameweapon is in his name.

That is absolutely incorrect!

a) A person who has it entered on his/ her license as a PB rifle can own it in semi-auto, it would be perfectly legal to do so. Till the 1980's it was fairly common (especially amongst ex-servicemen) to own these rifles on PB licenses (in those days issued by the Home Deptt. of the state they were resident in).

b) If the gas system is disabled and it is essentially converted from semi-auto to a straight pull bolt action, it can be owned on an ordinary NPB rifle license. Since PB licenses have become increasingly difficult to obtain (since they are now exclusively issued by IS-II at the Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi), this is the route most people take these days.

M1 carbine! I was issued one in the Reserve Officer School. It was produced by Underwood (typewriter making Company) in 1944. Th stock was pretty new, just coming back from the arsenal after an overhaul. The best rifle for closed order drill or sentry duty. You could stay for ten minutes on Present Arms without moving, or march up and down the yard at Low Port, while the Garand was a torture (so said the infantry, but I was a gunner).
Maybe digging in the attic I can find some pictures.
Please, take care of a "baby" I cradled in my arms longtime ago (1968).
