Guns save lives, another example of an armed citizen using a firearm to protect himself.

Alleged armed robber shot; second suspect still at large

APPLE VALLEY — An alleged armed robbery at a local pharmacy was foiled when one suspect was shot by the pharmacist Friday evening, authorities said, but a second suspect remains at large.

The incident, which occurred at Jonathan’s Pharmacy in the 19300 block of Bear Valley Road, was reported just before 7 p.m. Friday. Details were scarce, but authorities confirmed one suspect was shot while another one remains outstanding.

According to scanner traffic, the pharmacy was robbed at gunpoint by two suspects, described as black men wearing bandannas over their faces. The pharmacist opened fire and struck one suspect, Apple Valley Sheriff’s Sgt. Griffith said, but the second fled before deputies arrived.

An employee on scene told the Daily Press she had just left work when a friend called to ask about what happened.

“I thought it was a prank call at first,” the employee said. “I’ve heard about pharmacies being robbed before, but never would have imagined it happening here.”

The employee said the pharmacy’s boss and two technicians were there when the incident occurred. They were OK but “very shaken up,” the employee said.

The wounded suspect suffered “non-life-threatening” injuries, Griffith said, and was taken to a local hospital before being arrested. No further details on the suspect were available Friday night.

According to scanner traffic, the second suspect fled the scene in a black 2000 Nissan Altima. No further details were available.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Sheriff’s dispatch at 760-956-5001. Persons wishing to remain anonymous can contact the We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-782-7463 or online at www.wetip.com.

Sorry for deviating but the scene would have been quite different if it happened here in India. Firstly the police would have feasted on the victim himself and the poor fellow would spend half his life and all his money proving his innocence. An established Gun dealer friend in Mumbai had a careless customer let AD injuring his own companion and the poor soul had to suffer all kinds of queries and accusations in spite of having the CCTV footage recording of the whole incident.
Hope the Indian Police work hard on winning over the confidence of the honest citizens.
