4 leopards in 4 days......The Lansdowne Maneater
My team consisting of Corbett 99, Zaheer and yours truly shot down the maneating leopard of Lansdowne.
An animal which killed 2 girls and injured 3 adults within a week.
This hunt was special because Corbett 99s son studies in a boarding school in lansdowne. The same area where the maneater was operating.
This hunt was closer to the heart.
Different from any other hunt because the attacks......unlike previous leopard attacks..... were in broad day light.
The leopard was also moving a lot and not returning to the kill.
The attacks were so regular and boistrous....(almost everyday).....that three teams of hunters were invited to gun down the beast.
We shot her last saturday. All attacks have stopped ever since but I shall wait for a month ....as always......just to make sure we have got the right animal.
Two leopards were trapped. But since the attacks continued , we knew the maneater was still at large.
The silver lining is that the innocent leopards which were trapped have now been relocated and released.

Well done, Prashantsingh ,Corbett99 and Zaheer for terminating, a man eater.
Having said that, it is a sad day where we necessarily need to kill a wild animal , and a magnificent one like a leopard . I am sure you too, would have felt a moment of sadness to kill it, though you knew it was absolutely necessary.
We need to preserve their habitat and develop special ones, so that there are less chances of their contact with humans.

Re: 4 leopards in 4 days......The Lansdowne Maneater
Woke up today and read this unfortunate news.
This was my 5th maneater hunt and wherever we had shot a maneater....Till date there had never been an attack on humans or loss of human life.
We had shot the leopard barely 50 mtrs from where it had killed the four and a half year old girl the previous day.
Where could we gone gone wrong ? I wondered.
Called up Zaheer who had the Village Pradhaan's number. Asked him to speak to the Pradhan. We had spent three days in this village and knew him well. Two attacks had taken place here before we had reached.
I called up the Range Officer to find out.
This was a FALSE report.
No such attack had taken place.
The lady reporter had previously done a similar thing when we had shot the FRI maneater. She had done it again.
Some people just can't change......old habits die hard.
Wonder what sadistic pleasure she gets out of creating controversies.

Prashantsingh, Corbett99 and Zaheer,
Congratulations for a job well done! When one of your own children could be at risk, endeavour such as this acquires a special importance and urgency. I am glad that it ended well.
Prashant,
Some people are irredeemable. Crooked bent of mind. Ignore them and carry on doing the good deeds.
Best-
Vikram

Hi Prashant!
Congrats to you & the team for putting the Man Eater to rest!
As far as the jurno is concerned....treat it as an incident worth forgetting! Journalism always thrives on creating 'sensational news' whether its true or false.....
Carry on regardless...Best wishes!

Lansdowne
Nestled in the Himalaya is a beautiful sleepy hillstation at 5800 feet above sea level.
Surrounded by Cheer Pine and Oak forests. Famous for its picturesque beauty.
The Regimental Centre of The Garhwal Rifles and Garhwal Scouts.
A regiment carved out of The Gurkhas . One which faught many a battle all over the world for the white man and is still doing so for our nation. Simple , yet brave hill folk.
28th Feb 2016.
The tranquility of this peaceful station is broken by a mid day attack on a four and a half year old girl by a leopard.
The girl has come to meet her grandmother. Is picked up and dragged away into a dry "gadera".
Villagers come in and chase the beast away. The dead girl is retrieved. A post mortem conducted and cremated.
The next afternoon a 14 year old girl is attacked in Pokhal village at around 2 pm.The girl sustains minor injuries but manages to lock herself inside her house. Another lady is attacked in the same village 3 hours later.
The frequent attacks force the administration to invite Joy Hukil a famous hunter from the nearby town of Pauri.
Joy leaves immediately and misses the leopard by less than an hour. Spend the night searching for the killer....but the leopard slips away into the darkness.

@ibalajis, the Nilgiri incident is the only one so far hence I don't think the FD is classifying the feline as a man eater yet..
