3 I guess. At least in Bihar a general rule of 3 applies but is not yet strict.

Limits also are vauge. It used to be 200 shots per year, if member of NRAI it was increased to 450. If a competition shooter more as per requirement.

Anomalities exist. My father's licenve issued in 1967 is limitless.

Similarly one of our fellow shooters Raja Birendar Kr. Singh had a limitless .22 LR licence. Birendar Babu expired last year.

Well, let's see - this is about "weapons" right? There is no limit to the number of rocks and boulders (when thrown they become weapons) that one can own. Neither is there a limit on the number of paperweights - they can also be thrown like rocks and boulders can. You can also own as many knives as you want, coconut choppers etc. Hammers of all sizes - they can be used to hit someone on the head can also be owned without any legal limit as can screwdrivers which could be used to stab people.

There is a limit of three guns plus one extra for target shooters though. That is a limit that we at the IFG are opposed to and are trying to fight.

Seriously, please do NOT use the word "weapon." A gun does NOT have to be a weapon. It is a mere tool. I cringe when I see someone describe an ISSF target rifle or pistol as a "weapon." A 28" barreled single shot rifle with micrometer sights, a hook buttplate and micrometer sights - a weapon? Or, a 22 lr pistol that weighs more than most 1911s in 45 ACP a weapon? Certainly not. Let us not give the anti gunners any ammunition with the wrong use of certain words, please.

Is it legeally permitted to have licence for 2number .32bore revolver and 1 number 12bore dbbl in india by individual,kindly clarify..regards james

Hello Friends,
As per law, one person can keep a total of three NP bore weapons:
1.A gun,
2.A rifle.
3.A pistol or revolver.

This is in general. No idea if sports persons are allowed to keep more.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Active target shooters can indeed have more. For example, a pistol shooter who participates in Free Pistol, Standard Pisol and Centre Fire disciplines, can own two pistols in .22LR calibre and one in .32 calibre. He may even be allowed to have a back-up pistol for each event. Not entirely certain of the last bit but I think that is possible.

Well on papers 3 in reality getting even one is a day dream. People like me are even seeing hard time renewing it

I have read in papers a few days ago that now MLG will be issues by a district collector which was under Tahsildar's authority.

I am still fighting with authorities to get 12 Bore and I have 10 year old license for MLG and .22.

If it was a fresh I can't dream of owning a gun in today's scenario.

But will fight fight and fight.

Civilians can hold a maximum of THREE arms licenses. There is no limitation as to what combination of 3 can be held, so in theory a person may very well use his three permitted arms licenses to hold: -

1 handgun + 1 shotgun + 1 rifle (which is what most people do, but there is no legal necessity to adhere to this particular combination)
OR 3 handguns
OR 2 handguns + 1 rifle
OR 2 handguns + 1 shotgun
OR 3 rifles
OR 2 rifles + 1 handgun
OR 2 rifles + 1 shotgun
OR 3 shotguns
OR 2 shotguns + 1 handgun
OR 2 shotguns + 1 rifle

BASICALLY any combination of THREE you so desire - this is of course theoretical, you would still need to convince the licensing authority of your stated NEED for each additional arms license you apply for!

For members of accredited/ recognised rifle associations/ shooting clubs, in addition to the (above mentioned) max permissible limit of 3 arms licenses, they are permitted to own 1 additional .22 cal rifle for the purpose of target shooting - thereby taking their total allowance of arms licenses to FOUR.

Competition shooters who have achieved the status of "renowned shot" are exempted from the above provisions, details of the relevant notifications pertaining to them (i.e. "renowned shots") can be found at http://www.nrai.in/notifications.html

ALSO, as per govt. notification - members of NRAI are EXEMPT from having to deposit their arms at their local police station at the time of elections etc.

HOWEVER, there was a recent court ruling by the Allahbad bench of the Hon'able UP High Court, which disallowed the usual practice of issuing a blanket notice to deposit all licensed arms with the local police at the time of elections. IIRC someone had made a post here in that regards and you should be able to dig it out if you search the forums.

HI! As per the GOI notifications a renowned shooter can keep a max of 10 firearms. So the most common scenario for a rifle shooter renowned shot can be (substitute pistol/DBBL for other events) :

1. one pistol/revolver
2. one DBBL
3. one NPB rifle
4. one .22 rifle exemtion as member of rifle club
5. 4 firearms and 15K cartridges of the event he attained renowned status in.

If the dude attains renowned status in 2 events then:
6. 2 firearms of the category he attained his second renowned status (Note here we reach the 10 limit and if he wants to avail the 4 firearms limit here he will have to sell off 2 firearms to acomodate all 4 he is entitled)

HI! here is another hypothetical hardcore riflemans scenario
here we assume the dude has no interest xcept in rifles and he attains renowned status in .22 and big bore prone and also big bore 3 P then we have:

1. 4x big bore free rifles +15K carts.
2. 4 xbig bore standard rifles + 15K Carts.
3. 2x .22 rifles + 15K carts or one NPB rifle (civilian entitlement and one .22 rifle)

MIND BOGGLING nine big bore rifles and one .22 with 45K carts .... wud cost a fortune to accumulate quality stuff though

Err... I'll settle for the Lathi L39 MK2 (the one the thuls have with the iron sleeve at both ends ) coupled with the ole Mk1 eyeballs and some good hand eye co-ordination it gets the job done.
