Re: AARMR Hurricane Model 15. First Impressions. Picture Heavy
Glad to see the gun performing smoothly & consistently with decent power. Final model would feature a target crown, barrel choke, adjustable cheek rest & butt plate and hopefully a two-stage trigger also. There is absolutely NOTHING I could do about the stock except offer it with adjustable cheek rest & butt plate; I do hope it will make it behave much better for conventional stock lovers & make it look good as well!
As I said earlier also, they didn't know the reason why a top hat is needed!
However my quest for 1000fps with 16gr pellet in an Indian AR continues to elude me!

* IMHO...the seal should have a sung fit within the receiver....even if its a tad tight, it will settle after 200+ shots!
* Further it appears that there is not much (appreciable) difference in the velocities - before & after the new spring + piston etc....may be the AR has become smoother - less vibration....
Remember that it takes any AR at-least 500 shots for it to settle down to evaluate if performance....

Re: AARMR Hurricane Model 15. First Impressions. Picture Heavy
Brihaji I asked the manufacturer to make the guide so tight that the spring would need to be twisted clockwise - 'nailed' as suggested by Jim Maccari.. Doing that eliminated the spring's buzz & made it smooth but also took away some power.. With a looser guide the gun is more powerful but also noisier..
I think they have reached the 'peak' with this design (or thereabouts). What would you suggest to further enhance its power - bigger spring perhaps?

Velocity - Accuracy - Value - Some things to look for in an Air Rifle....

My sincere request is not to give preference to Power / Velocity against Accuracy especially in Spring powered ARs.....
However if one needs a combination of Power, Velocity & Accuracy - Go for PCPs

Brihaji I practice 'stalking' as a hobby.. I mean the stalking peacocks & deer in the jungle type, not the stalking hot chick/ex-gf in the city/online type... A 'jungli', so to speak!
So PCPs are out of question in jungles. Hence the preference for springers.. If only the British Whiscombes and Patriots were still in market... Besides I like the way one has to be 'at the edge' to be really accurate with a springer - I just love that 'in the moment' trans-like feeling before a shot.. At times one can hear his own heartbeat...
Currently this gun has medium thickness spring, now that other pressing factors have been sorted out & performance stabilized, I'm thinking about pushing it as hard as I can without degrading its accuracy or consistency. Lets see how that works out...

i agree the rifle should be marketed as is. single digit ES with a few Indian and jsb pellets along with the velocity / accuracy results that were put up over short ranges are good enough.
i strongly believe power and accuracy are subjective just as much as target crowns , choked barrels , two stage triggers.....while welcome....are again subjective. lets try and address the needs .....wants in many cases do not really replace required skills.

Re: AARMR Hurricane Model 15. First Impressions. Picture Heavy
As per the first impression of the gun, it seemed to have sufficient power & accuracy. The main problem that stood out was the excess noise & vibrations. So I focused on that first.
Next thing was a short-trigger pull, the manufacturer fixed the length but err'd with the trigger width. Will fix it in final version surely. Now the problem of two-stage trigger came only recently, so it would take some time.
Rest of the things also will be included in final version as I've said earlier.

Thank You for the link. But I already read it before. That is why I left the gun cocked for one hour to scrag the spring. But what I am concerned about is just one hour reduced the spring length by 3 inches. The new spring is now 11 inches long as against the old spring's 10.75 inches after more than 1000 pellets shot with the old spring. Does it reflect the poor quality of the spring.
The PH seal is a tad tight when new in my ORIONs and noticed that the piston seal wears a little after use. But I think a correct fit with good sealing properties is much better than a tighter fit as it results in less friction yet seals properly. I also think these kind of synthetic seals expand a little on forward stroke of the piston due to the resistance by compressing air. I may be wrong though.
The results with the old power plant were with the original seal, spring and spring guide after more than 1000 pellets were shot through the gun and I guess the gun was properly settled down. The results with the new power plant were taken only after three pellets were shot through the gun to see if there is any dieseling. You can see that the avg MV for GSmiths only increased a tiny bit but all other pellets registered a little lower average MVs. Also the original seal fails my sealing test. I tested the piston with old seal before fitting the new seal and found that the piston descends down even with the transfer port blocked. That is why I am expecting increase in performance after the gun settles down. We can see only after the gun settles down.
The Teflon Spring Guide is a successful improvement and it made the cocking and firing cycle nice and smooth with very little vibrations. And I am expecting improved performance with the new seal. I also think that if proper spring loaded plungers are used the trigger would become as good as
that of a PH Gun. The Hurricane, I feel, is capable of 12 ft-lbs with good quality pellets. I think it can deliver 12 ft-lbs with good accuracy with JSBs.
But I don't think it can deliver the claimed 14 ft-lbs with any pellets except may be those extremely light weight alloy pellets gun manufacturers use to achieve their claimed MVs.
If this gun gives acceptable accuracy at long ranges also with good pellets then people who don't mind this kind of stock may find it attractive in its price range. Also so far the ceramic coating proved to be good despite the way I left the gun exposed to elements without taking any care just to see how good the ceramic coating is.
I think the most important thing now for the AARMR Sports is to improve the trigger.
Regards,
GNV

GNV u have summed it up beautifully, i suggest you to do five shot groups as it will be invaluable data to cross compare the groups with different users, airguns and pellets.

Hi GNV,
I truly appreciate the efforts you have taken to analyze & evaluate this ARs performance.....
Give it to the Brits for arriving at the 12 ft-lbs benchmark for the ideal combo of Power, Velocity & Accuracy....
As as you know ARs are an "Enigma"....No two AR even if of the same brand, same batch & even having succeeding serial nos. will perform uniformly...
One can discuss the merits & de-merits endlessly....ultimately given the right parameters, enjoyment & comfort in shooting is all that matters....
Incidentally ARs are choosy when it comes to pellets - not all accept every pellet to deliver power, smoothness & accuracy - Therefore try out the various combos - wt., shape & brand that your AR accepts & stick with it.....
HAPPY SHOOTING!!!!!
Briha

Re: AARMR Hurricane Model 15. First Impressions. Picture Heavy
Thank You ganeshn. I intend to compare my Hurricane, SX ORION and NX ORION soon with 5 shot groups of various pellets at various ranges. I ran out of Indian Pellets and only have JSBs and H&N FTT s with me right now. Ordered a few and waiting for the Indian Pellets to arrive. But I could not find any Precipells in any online shops except Orange Planet but their price is more than that of JSBs in Ballistol.in. I find it strange.
Thank You, Brihaji.

That is why I find my NP ORION a joy to shoot. It shoots beautifully with JSBs. But my NP ORION is not doing well with Precipells.

Isn't it 'prophetic' - No 2 ARs behave uniformly / similarlyGNV wrote: Thank You, Brihaji.

Its a behavior beyond comprehension even to the Gurus / Experts in air-gunning
See what suits best for your NP ORION & stay with it!!!!
Believe me my NP ORION performs well with 'Precipels'

Looks similar. Never asked the manufacturer about it. Will ask.. Lets see if he tells!

No Sir,
I don't see any similarities. The STOEGER stock looks to me like a practical Sporter with a proper PG and trigger reach and an adjustable comb and may be an adjustable but.
Also I think the proposed adjustable cheek piece is from this gun. Benjamin Legacy.
