After having developed my own particular style of writing over the past 3/4 century it's a bit daunting to adapt to a 'certain common characteristic calligraphy fonts'

Unless you really want to learn another script, you should continue writing the way you do.

The flat tipped/calligraphic/stub nib will add a bit of character (line variation) to your writing whilst letting you write as you have been doing.

Congrats on your new pens Aurora and Parker, I also picked up from FPH a Parker Sonnet medium nib, Rhodia notebook also bought 3 Inks two in blue Pilot Iroshizuku, Private Reserve and one in Black Parker Quink ( there was sale going on ) . Parker writes well toss up with finer nib, for nostalgic reason wanted to own a Parker. I also discussed with Fountain Pen Hospital (FPH) my Pilot Metropolitan scratchiness and Waterman Carene skipping. I cleaned up Carene thoroughly flushed with water, seems better; otherwise FPH offered to increase the flow to nib or ship it to vendor for TLC. Dec 3 to 5 they have some kind of event will check them out.

Hi Navi,

The Aurora has a couple of problems but the seller is trying to make things right.

The Sonnet is a good solid workhorse pen with good balance. I had bought a couple when they were first advertised in Bangalore in the late 90's. One worked well, the other wasn't too great.

Pilot Iroshizuku inks are considered extremely highly but I have never tried them because of the cost. Would like to read what you think about it.

The next time you visit FPH take the Metropolitan and Carene with you. Other than the thin section, I am very pleased with my Metropolitan.

If you want some old Parkers, have a look at Peyton Street Pens and Main Street Pens websites.

I did take both of my pens to FPH, they checked both, you are correct nothing wrong with Pilot Metropolitan its just that every pen writes different. Carene I will be checking more for performance. Parker 51 is very highly rated and will check those websites out too. Good luck with Aurora if nothing works FPH folks could advise

If they checked the pens and did the needful, if required, then both pens should both be working perfectly. The Metro shouldn't be scratchy and the Carene should not skip.

The Aurora 88 has a parts problem - misaligned tines and and a broken ink flow regulator within the feed. The former, I have more or less fixed but the latter will require an undamaged feed from another Aurora 88.

Firstly going by your advice I arrived at home last night around 8pm and headed straight to fix myself a shot of 'Scotch' ...With the glass in hand I sat at the dining table and was about to take the first sip - when I noticed the blue envelope lying close by....
My heart skipped a beat as I laid the glass down...On opening the package, I was stumped to see the contents...
1. A neat blue velvet sleeve with tasseled draw strings...
2. A hand written note....that said it all
The PEN, an immaculate piece, strong, sturdy and very appealing and the note plain, simple yet bespoke warmth!!!!
