Dear goondasmani,
curved blade in your picture seems to be a spear head because of threads and nuts are seen at the knife bottom.
Whenever necessary the knife from sheath is fixed at the spear shaft,otherwise openly they hold and carry the shaft only.
You see this type spear in Sivaji film "Pattikaata Pattanama".
In Tamil,they are called as "VelKaththi or VelAlagu" by my Ramnad friends but I don't know the specific name for straight and curved spears.
