As per my information to change to type of weapon you have to apply again and go through the process of a new license all over again. Please share the details as it would be a great help to other members. Also after you bought the 12 gauge you must have gone through the entire process again to get your handgun license.
Kindly share what forms are used in this process and how much time did it take to get approvals???

After getting ur license u have to go to dc office to get permission for buying a firearm they mention the catogary and time period on ur licence to buy the fire arm in the given time if u want to change the catogary from hand gun to shotgun or rifel , or u want to extend the time period for purcase u need to go there again and explain them the reason for delay or change in category in earlier time one could buy 3 fire arms in diffrent catogary now days consider urself lucky if u r allowed to possess more than one thanks

Gadara Sahab,

You are one lucky fellow/ Sahab and must be having good connections or you yourself would be placed very high in the administration or politics. Because the Licensing Authority has made things so simple for you. Kindly correct me if I am wrong. The process you follow is as follows.

1. Get your Arms License.
2. Go to DC office and tell him the category of weapon you want to buy.
3. He will endorse it on your license and give you a purchase period.
4. If you change your mind again, go to the DC office and get the category changed, like you did from hand gun to shot gun.
5. After a certain lapse of time you go again to DC office and tell him to endorse the second and then third weapon (but only if you are lucky)

Again I admire you as you are lucky to get a second weapon.
Also I feel you are very lucky to have an assistant to do all the running around for you as you yourself are confused about the licensing process.
:D :D :D

PS: You are a few years elder to my daughter and she is a great bluffer (no reference about you off course). ROTFL

Hi Ashok,

Off course, I am sure you are not bluffing. There is a provision for extending the purchase period. But I have never heard of a case where one gets an open ended Arms License and after getting that he decides what he wants to buy. One has to apply for a particular weapon be it a hand gun, rifle, shot gun or muzzle loader.
Also for a second or third weapon there is no time lapse required, you can apply the day you get your first license. But the process has to be followed except the application has to be given on a plain paper giving the reason for the requirement of the second and/ or third weapon and the process of verification is followed as of that of the new License.
I have also never heard that just because you have had a weapon for a certain number of years, you just walk into the DC's office and ask for an additional weapon.

And if it is so in some district then it is a wonderful place to live in, only second to the USA in terms of RKBA.
Though it should be so all over India but unfortunately it is not as of now.

Godara ji,

I also want to become a farmer/ planter after this stressful job that I have done all my life. Yes it is the easiest weapon license is for a 12 g shotgun if you own land for farming.
But I wanted to know the process of getting a second license. Because as per my knowledge it is not so simple as you describe (walk into DC office etc. after owning a weapon for a certain number of years).
How and what documents did you have to submit, would help other members as well.

U have to mention ur category it is mandatory under law.But in many districts the officers r not aware of new amendements. For example as per amendment in rules minimum limit for ammunation rounds is 50 rounds with the limitation for 30 rounds for a time at the maximun but still in our area in many places the limit of 25 r entered in licence.
