What chance do you think there is that the ban on imports will be repealed ? Damn all I would say
HI! I dont think the babus have any plans to lift the ban betsides the corrupt indian politicians know how to play the system and they get what they want - they keep illegal auto weapons and have pvt. goons aka armies on call . I had read a very interesting article in the paper that influential politicians smuggle handguns of their choice into India and then have it recovered by the thana in which they exercise full control. These seized handguns are then convininetly alloted to the "smuggler" party and bingo u have beaten the ban without going to any ministry for taking permission /exemption from the ban.
Well unfortunatly guns and wine are on two diffrent planes of the spectrun and no govt. will exert pressure on the Govt. of india to lift the domestic ban they cud exert pressure to clinch military contracts though. However if the Ambanis or the Tatas or the Mittals could be shown how profitable it wud b to set up a plant for mfg of short and long arms in Inda I am sure they could pull it off and finish off the IOF in the process too....

well if u see the selling price of the sales to the government the IOF makes crazy type profit from the civilians. As far as "rectification" of the situation is concerned I dont think there is light at the end of the tunnel yetSeveral years ago, the NDA Govt was mulling over lifting the ban. Most vehement protests came from IOF ( sorry but cannot provide any link ). There has been some positive developments recently but nothing to rectify the situation. Let's hope for the best !
Not always as there are some other players as well. A recent example is when Indian Govt was compelled to abolish the additional customs duty on imported wine and spirits primarily after pushed by EU and US Govt which was responsible for their prohibitive price. This in spite of the pressure exerted by the domestic liquor lobby.
