Digvijay Singh calls for change in guidelines for Arms licences
Last Updated: Friday, July 3, 2015 - 13:45

New Delhi: Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on Friday said that he will call on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, calling for a change in guidelines for the issue of Arms licences.

"The earlier guidelines issued have created lots of problems: our demand is that the guidelines issued in 2010 under the Arms Licence Act be withdrawn. The office of arms clerks have become a hotbed for corruption, so we demand that the guns licence be converted from a yearly renewal to a lifetime licence. Only two or three percent of murders take place from licensed guns, the rest are all unlicensed guns," Digvijay Singh said.

The Congress leader also stated that he would not raise the issue of the death of people associated with the Vyapam scam.

"There is no use of raising the Vyapam scam with Rajnath Singh because if the Prime Minister cannot do anything, how will the Home Minister?" he said.

I'm tempted to ask which govt was in power when the 2010 guidelines were issued but I'll refrain.

A public statement by the General Secretary of Congress is certainly supportive of the cause NAGRI is taking up. Kudos to all those involved for relentlessly working in this area to garner support.

Cheers,

Its a good call by Rajnath Singh. However, whoever and whatever happens it far easy and productive to approach court. Then taking politicians false assurance that they will bring some change.

Being in opposition, they would anyway make all kind of noises to make to object the change. However, nothing really happens.

It is still a good initiative, we can only hope for the best.

Is he or his party willing to ensure that the Draft Arms Rules 2015 does not get passed in its present form? If yes then it is a good thing.

I will be the last person to believe him going by his antics but if he still walks the talk ,I must say I am ready to firmly stand behind the prince of Guna !

Yes you can. Digvijay Singh. Make sure you try to implement it. Also soften procedure on gun license.
