I'm confused about a number of things. I thought you couldn't own semiauto rifles like this, I guess I was wrong? Also, why could you own it but not shoot it?aadhaulya wrote:I will find an auction house soon enough. I have decided to sell all my guns and then go in for these exotic guns. Ammo doesn't matter as one can't shoot any where in India.
Then hopefully you guys can drool all over them.

I will try to find a photo of me ridding a unicorn, holding a M1 carbine bought from one of these govt. auction houses.

- * You can own Semi-Auto Rifles / Hanguns
* The Fully Auto feature on the M1 has to be disabled permanently for civilian use
* The .30 Round is a prohibited bore (PB) as it was/is in use by the armed forces (hence the popular 9mm Luger is also PB)
* A civilian needs to have a PB licence to own a PB weapon
* There is a paucity of the .30 round (I don't know if it is manufactured in India)
* There are not many places where one can go and shoot safely and legally (bush/forest/wild) except at a designated range
* The laws are very vague / non-existent on accepted areas for legal discharge of a firearm
Trust this helps to clarify somewhat Commonwealth_of_PA
When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns!

Re: M1 US Carbine from the auction
The M1 Carbine is semi-automatic; the selective fire version is the Carbine M2. I believe it is the semi-automatic function that is disabled before it can be owned by civilians under Indian law.

All the best and happy shooting. But please remember you can't shoot it just about anywhere. You will have to shoot it only at the shooting range.nagarifle wrote:i have a government list for which a payment was made, if anyone wants a copy of the list with relevant forms may do so at the cost of 500/, losts of info is given as to contacts etc on how to get the best bids on the items you want by paying special fees. i am bidding on this one

Some people have all the luck.
1. Finding such a beautiful gun. I think it will get registered as a rifle.
2. Space available 15 kms away where the projectile can land safely.

That was VERY helpful, thanks! The PB thing is a huge pain but at least Indians can hypothetically own just about any firearm if they can find a way to get their hands on one.
