Jim Corbett
Hi all,
am in the process of planning a trip to Nainital. Of particular interest to me is Jim Corbett. Can anybody advise me where exactly is his summer home which has been converted into a museum. And how do I get there.
Secondly in the past Mack The Knife had very kindly provided a link to us to view his .450/400 double rifle. Does anybody know where his .275 Rigby if its still in safe hands can be seen?
Many Thanks!

Re: Jim Corbett
Hunter,
The place is Kala Dungi,in the foot hills about 45 mins from Nainital.
The Corbett Park is another 45 mins from Kala Dungi, but is closed from the 15th June to the 15 Nov each year.
If you are a keen angler then Marchula on the Ram Ganga is the place about 35 kms from Corbett Park, but then again the time would be Oct.

Re: Jim Corbett
Great time to go there,do carry some woolens.
The roads are very good,if you are planning to drive down via the Moradabad-Rampur-Rudrapur-Haldwani side a little longer though.
The shorter route via Moradabad - Kashipur - Bazpur is good too.

Nope. It's with me.Any idea if his .275 Mauser Rigby is displayed there?
Suggest you read up on Corbett, especially the Indian authors as there is enough detail on Kaladhungi - their winter home. Pics as well. The caretaker gets really excited when someone shows a real interest.
And no, there are no guns buried under the floor as the myth suggests. They were either sold in India or taken to Africa.
Have a good time and take many pictures....for me.

Re: Jim Corbett
Dear Hunter,
It was the Rigby was sold by a Nagpur dealer for 20K along with the original letter from Jim Corbett, this is what i can re-collect from distant memories while i was in nagpur in 1980-84. thereafter i do not know what happened to the rigby. The rifle was "shot out" at that time as quoted by the dealer

Re: Jim Corbett
........Thanks for that heartbreaking news Shamsher.
Any idea who the dealer was?
20k for that rifle, although a shot out bore-was peanuts, that is if it was the original Rigby which belonged to Jim Corbett. It should be termed a national treasure by now!and priceless too! Lucky the person who owns it !!
Infact even his .450/400 which is now at Elmer Keiths in the US should be returned to India, as its our national heritage!
Did not one of our ministers go across to London sometime ago to get back Shivaji's Sword. Also the Mahatmas letters too are coming home now!

Re: Jim Corbett
Hi Hunter,
Gurney house, Corbett's house in Nainital is worth a visit. It has more of Corbetts possession, than museum at Kaladhungi. It is on the road to Sherwood college, starting from Malli tal lake.
