SDB 2000 Air rifle - my new purcahse

Post by mthayeb » Thu Apr 30, 2015 3:45 am

Hello fellow IFGians, I recently purchased an SDB 2000 Air rifle from Kolkata. It was not avaialable in any of my nearest cities, so i called the factory itself and asked them to make it avaialable. so the factory manager recommended a dealer in kolkata who can send it by post. gun arrived in kochi exactly after 10 days (side note : india post improved i think, this parcel came fromkolkata to kochi in 10 days, package carefully handled, very well protected.. i recommed using indian post).

They sent it in a wooden box, the wood stock dismantled. i was quite upset with the condition of the gun, it was a used one. i can see clear tear n wear on wood stock, they just applied a new layer of thick wood polish. barrel and chamber recently 'blue'd. looks like was a showroom display unit. regardless, it is perfectly working condition. but entire metal parts were sunk in oil..

I made a risky move for further investigation, decided to dis-assemble the unit. i read earlier posts about the "spring blast' so did it in a controlled environment. Maaaan, it was stain all over.. But spring was in good condition (BTW, SDB 2000 spring is aweseome they are exact quality of Diana magnum guns). i could see the chamber inner wall full of black thick oil.. SDB 2000 piston is pure stainless steel. i cleaned everything with a tissue towel, and immediately took to a gunsmith and asked him to aseemble it back :) He did some good cleaning while assembling the unit. changed the washer and spring guide.

after th cleaning and aseembly i tried 10 shots on shooting target, got 9 of themin .5 inch group. thats perfect. gun is very accurate and delivery is cool. power is excellent. Tried shots on 1/2 inch hardwood with very low qyality pellets, it penetrates halfway thru the hardwood.. thats good. usually i dont see pellets completely submerse to a dry hardwood.

Overall, SDB 2000is an excellent gun. it has power and accuracy out of the box. (Well my case is different.) The trigger is WAY smooth, exactly like precihole. With my AK agni 500 i have to trigger @ 5-6 kg pressure, but with SDB 2000 its only 1.5 kg pressure. so trigger is a breeze. Yes, their trigger system is something similar to Diana (not exact like in diana)

Do i recommend SDB 2000 over other indian .22 air rifles ? VERY MUCH. but dont buy from that kolkata dealer..i am not publishing his details here, if anyone want to know, PM me with ur email id, i will let you know.

Side note : my purchase was a bargain deal. i got it 20% cheaper than market price.

I cant upload photos here, i am new.

SDB2000 is the best gun in their stable.
It is the pure clone of Diana 35, made in Germany.
I have fired the AR and found straight shooter out of the box.
You can hear all sounds of the world , if untuned.
Tuning makes it a civilized beast.
Hope you will enjoy more if tuned properly.

Dear mthyrb,
I am little surprizes to know that SDB 2000 piston is made of stainless steel.
To my understanding , it is of MS only.
You have two more guns already.
Pl.put up a comparsion of your feeling.

Hi snipers,

Just wanted to share a piece of info.
Trigger used in SDB models with steel balls were used by Diana in 1950 and off patent now. So used by many people.
Latest trigger types are the modular ones. Kindly do not trust any dealer. They want to make their extra buck.
By the way I own an AK 550 (underlever) and UTA 35 (Diana Replica).

Cheers

Dear Basu,

A modular trigger is one that can be taken out of the rifle as a whole unit and not as individual parts.

Dear Basu Sir,

I have all but made up my mind to get one SDB air rifle when I come down to Kolkata next month. Cant decide whether it will be Apache or 2000.

Whatever I end up buying, I understand it will need some serious tuning. And here I need your kind help. Could you please point me to the right direction? Are there any professional tuners in Kolkata?

Regards,

- Jai

PS: Can the above rifles be tuned to around 18 fpe (ofcourse without compromising accuracy)?

Dear jksunwar,

I happened to only test fire SDB 2000 and my considered view is , in given state , this gun's internals are not meant to produce 18 foot/lbs energy.
After tuning , it may reach 10.5 FPE max.
The feature of this gun is its distribution of weight and trigger.
There are members in this forum who have been using for quite some times.
There opinion is far more valued.
But its a pleasure to shoot.
