DIY Targets for AR Shooting!

Post by brihacharan » Wed Apr 15, 2015 3:28 pm

A bit of innovative thinking is all that's needed to make "out of the ordinary targets" for plinking :D
While emptying the garbage bin at home I saw an empty beer can & a soda bottle cap....
A wild idea struck & this is what they ended up as!
I used transparent tape to stick the bottle cap on to the beer can....
Image

At 15ft - just one shot with my Samurai 3G 0.22 cal - Hit the bottle cap dead centre :D

Family, Food & Fun apart this was the best celebration I did on Baisakhi Day :D

Yow! That's deadly shooting, Brihaji!

Good idea! Pop cans make great targets and, after they are all shot up, they still retain their scrap value!

that's great ! that's good innovative thinking. 15 yards mean almost 5 feet i think. pellets would have gone through the can .

It's 15 feet (5 yards) :D
The soda bottle caps are thick (1.5mm approx.) and the surface area being small the resistance to penetrate is comparatively high!
But the same thickness in a Deo Can offers less resistance because of a larger surface area - where the pellet goes through & through!
Try it!

Timmy,

> Same with shooting - there are days when you pick up your gun - just aim and shoot & wind up with a 1/2" group @ 25 yds & on those days (I don't want to remember them ) the group gives you a 2" wide smile (n)

Brihaji, after your serving of Baisakhi food and notun gurer payesh, you would really have been in zen state!!

I tried the harder targets like tumblers, etc., but found the ricochet too dangerous, esp. since I shoot indoors. The old shoe box-and-telephone directory target stop works perfectly for me. And outside my window there's the national park. So no risk even if I miss a couple. To make life interesting I print out pics from the net. I once had "the most wanted man in the world" as a target!!
Cheers!

There you go...essdee - innovation at its best (Shoe Box + Old Telephone Directory)
BTW - The best part of "Nuton Gurer Payesh" is that you can savor it either 'piping hot' or 'chilled' :D :D :D

Soda bottle caps thickness is not more than 0.2 mm & at 15 feet it should be easily penetrated by .22 pellets

Guys I super like Griha ji's idea of empty beer cans. But as I see it one shot destroys the can.
Therefore, a have bought loads of these cans and am in the process of emptying them to have a good supply of targets. But then I am too sozzled to shoot at them.

Regards

Here's a hole rudely poked through the 26" armor used on IJN Yamato and Musashi main battery turret faces:

I wonder where the Navy got the tune up spring to do this?

Seems like the spring also went through, lock stock and barrel.
