This incident took place nine years ago. I was amazed when I read it in the newspaper the next day, and I haven't heard of anything like this ever again. A gang of robbers had made life difficult for the villagers and the police. The villagers constructed bunkers on their rooftops. What happened next, read it yourself. The number of robbers killed was 13 in some newspapers and 15 in others

15 robbers killed in clash with villagers
At least 15 robbers were killed and other 10 managed to escape in an encounter with the villagers in Chak No 1339-L, a suburb of Sahiwal, some 160-km east of Multan on early Sunday morning.
According to details, some 25 robbers armed with automatic weapons reached the village in a truck and a car at 4.30 am on Sunday and they raided a residence of a big landlord Sardar Nazir Ahmed and looted all valuables at gun-point.
In the meantime, the watchman of the village informed the residents about the dacoits. As soon as they came out of the landlord’s residence with looted goods, Villagers started firing from their “Morchas” (Hidden fortification), as a result 13 robbers died on the spot and another two died in hospital. It was a suddentb attack on the robbers and they could not retaliate properly and they attempted to run away but villagers foiled their attempt and killed 15 of them.
DSP Sahiwal City Malik Dawood Ahmed said: “Some 15 dacoits were killed in an encounter with villagers who showed bravery on self-help basis.”
He said that he had recommended commendation certificates and cash prizes for the villagers. SHO Waheed Ahmed said: “The slain robbers were wanted by police in a number of crimes and they belonged to “Oodh”, a nomad tribe. He DSP also said that a police party was detailed to arrest the remaining robbers who made good their escape.

Reads a lot like Sholay or any of the '70s Bollywood dacoit movies. Good for the villagers that they took care of the robbers.
