Hello,Raghvendrasingh wrote:@ essdee sir .... i sharpen my knives freehand and i am ok in it. I can make my knives upto scary sharp by free hand sharpening i.e. i can cut a4 paper.
I lives in small town of U.P.and here is no one interested in knives and camping. Even i found no one in jaipur in last eight years while i was studying there. Bad luck. So i just uses my knives and axes in my 1500 sq. Ft garden on trees . Hopes will find some friends of similar interests some day
So i will try to get a medium grit stone........ thanks a lot sir.
I do think that the knife sharpeners are the best tool to sharpen your knives.

What about Gerber or accusharp ?
I am using accusharp knife sharpeners for sharpening my knives and its works really good for almost all type of knives.

@harshit89
Gerber n accusharp are good but they have specific angles. Each blade needs sharpening at different angle like a machete should be sharpened at large angle (about 25 degrees), outdoor and survival knife at about 22 degrees, kitchen knife at 18 to 20 degrees.
So one sharpener doesn't fits for all blades.

Hello RaghvendrasinghRaghvendrasingh wrote:Hey everyone
I wanna ask to every IFGian that which sharpening system or stone is best for curved/recurved blades and straight blades. Where can I buy one????
I would like to suggest you to have the sharpening stones which are made from the ceramic as it is a coarse material which will be perfect for sharpening dull knives.

Hey harshit
coghlans sharpening stone is small in size so it can be used for maintaining knife edge while camping. But can't be used to sharpen knife properly.

I have a ruixin Stainless steel kitchen Edge pro knife sharpener system from china. got it for about $ 23.58. i use sand paper for a rough edge and finetune the angle with the ruixin system. recommended if you are not a heavy user or have only a few knifes to sharpen.
Some learn by reading. A few by observation. The rest of 'em have to pee on the electric fence.

Re: Best sharpening systems or stones
Very interesting collection of sharpening systems.
I have been using one for the last 10 years that has more advantages than the disadvantage. May be it has been discussed here but I did not find it. The following are the details
Advantages
1. Very easy to use.
2. Maintains the profile of the blade at all points with no variation.
3. Gives the same angle of cut through out.
Disadvantage
1. It has a fixed angle of cut. But that can be solved by modifying the design a little bit. Though I have not tried that till now as I have bben very satisfied with the results.
Construction
1. It has two sets of 4 circular grinding wheels in the shape/ size of a small coin.
2. The two sets of grinding wheels are connecting in a manner that the two sets of wheels placed alternately and overlap in a manor that the blade sits between the wheels and create the angle between the wheels where they overlap.
3. A perfect edge is created when the complete blade is rubbed through the wheels in one stroke. Off course to get a perfect finish the blade is to be run trough repeatedly keeping in mind that each run has to be the entire length of the blade.
The following pics should make it easy to understand.
