Help my shotgun barrel has ended with rust
My shot gun barrel has ended with light rust and one or two spots with heavy ovelooked rust. Suggestion sought for removal of rust without damaging the blueing as far as possible. Do we get Hoppes rust removal oil here in India?

The action to be taken really would depend on how badly rusted the barrel is - can you post detailed pictures?

Simple 4 step procedure...
1. Remove action from stock & spray WD40 & leave it for 5 mins & wipe clean...
2. Apply surgical spirit (available with all chemists) soaked in cotton all over .... this is to remove any traces of oil on the metal parts...
3. Apply Ballistol as directed on the container...leave the applied parts for 5 mins to dry & wipe clean with dry cloth....
You may apply another coat if necessary....
4. Apply Ballistol Gun Oil & rub clean!!!
> Two important things to store your Shot Gun....
1. Always wipe the metal parts with soft cloth after use....
2. Apply a thin coat of Ballistol Gun Oil while storing it till the next time use....

Managed to remove the rust with a whole night WD40 soak and light rubbing with a small piece of loofah. This very old swedish 410 is an heirloom property. Dont know its make. Can anyone here help identify it with markings in the pictures attached. It has a 1219 inscribed in the trigger guard.

Hello sir.sumanngon wrote:My shot gun barrel has ended with light rust and one or two spots with heavy ovelooked rust. Suggestion sought for removal of rust without damaging the blueing as far as possible. Do we get Hoppes rust removal oil here in India?
Looking at the pics of ur weapon I can only suggest that to re blue the weapon by some expert gun Smith. Since Ur gun looks like a custom made gun.
Leaving in the rust will ruin Ur barrels and may form pits which is very difficult to repair as I have some experience in this field.
And if you want to sell your weapon at any point of time the resale value of weapon drops drastically.
And use a good oil to protect inside and outside the barrel from rust.
Good luck .
