Re: my new rifle gi200
Started with 15 metres and pellets used are morgan shots .22 calibre.
I was surprised to see that after shooting the paper sheet with wall as background, it became flat just like a flattened plate.
The pellets were pointed and the pointed edge flattened more than 7 mm in diameter.

Are there any pellets which just penetrate and dont get flattened.
Thanks

If the backstop behind the paper is made of modeling clay or ballistic gel then pellets will not get flattened that much.dr18 wrote: Are there any pellets which just penetrate and dont get flattened.

Re: my new rifle gi200
Ideally pellets that expand well are preferred. But since our application here in India is restricted to plinking and target practice, i doubt it really matters.
Also doubt if you will find any pellets that will only penetrate and not expand when they hit a wall
The pellets that have some other material in the tip like the Gamo Rockets expand comparatively lesser. I guess the local option to the rockets are the gsmith steel tipped pellets, have never used these so have no idea about their performance and accuracy.
Humble and honest suggestion though would be to not focus on pellet expansion and penetration right now. Rather use few pellets, see which ones group really well with your rifle. Then see how the rifle performs at various ranges.*

This is good advice.kshitij wrote: Humble and honest suggestion though would be to not focus on pellet expansion and penetration right now. Rather use few pellets, see which ones group really well with your rifle. Then see how the rifle performs at various ranges.*
The fact that pellets become flat when they hit a wall is actually a physics lesson about the effects of stress on materials, The wall presses on the pellet and the pellet presses back and both get damaged or deformed a bit. Unless you are more intereted in the damage you are doing the information is not relevant to shooting.
Please make your photos penetrate the forum. See if you can figure out a way to extract images from your cellphone and post them on the forum. I would love to see images of the 100 meters rifle

Dear benne,
with the help of large experience , can you make an wild guess that how much KMPH it is delivering.
@kshitij -You have tons of experience for long range shooting so I am very keen to know the size of grouping and state of pellet on impact. for 100 mts rffle at 100 mts.

Re: my new rifle gi200
Hi basu,
We shoot at a standard distance of 50 yards only every weekend. At this distance, the grouping is generally half an inch. But there have been numerous times when i have been able to put 5 to 7 shots in the exact same hole shot after shot.
As for the pellets, they expand on impact.
Once the temperature starts going down during the winter, we should be shifting to the 100m range.
