Help in starting a knife collection

Post by anandzope » Sun Nov 02, 2014 7:24 am

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum. I am looking to start my own knife collection. So if you could suggest some, preferably under 3000 and also where to buy from. I've already got two knives the pictures of which I have attached below. Looking forward.

Knife collection is a broad and loaded term - you need to decide a few details, like folders or fixed blades, intended use, etc. I'd suggest do some reading on bladeforums.com for a start and you'll have some idea. General consensus - cheap-Chinese knockoffs are unreliable to use, but good for display. You can get good knives in your budget, for eg. A Victorinox on one end to an expensive custom on the other. Good luck and welcome to IFG's pointy and sharp section.

Anand, a very warm welcome to the sharp section of ifg. Where are you based. Sign up for the knife centre newsletter. There are often some very sweet deals on good blades. The shipping is expensive though. Locally you can get spanish nietos and muelas folders and fixed blades apart from your VIC SAKs ofcourse.

I would suggest you to start your collection with some good pocket knives or folding knives which can be used for everyday carry. I am suggesting you this because unless and until you are used to handle knife confidently you should not take them openly around. Pocket knives and folding knives are the best as you can carry them conveniently in your pocket and you will be used for carry them as well. Best of luck for your knife collection.
