Kanwar,

I live in Aurora.. its next to Naperville. I go trap shooting in clubs in both Naperville and Aurora. In fact I've gone to the one in Aurora with Mehul as well. The costs are ~$10 (including 25 shells) for a round of 25 birds.

Do let me know if you are planning to be in the area.

Others... any updates on the hunting trip?!??!?

Amit

At my club it is $3 per round of trap ($2.50 a member) and the shells cost me $4 a box (25 shells).

Being a member, it costs me $6.50 per round (25 birds), but as Amit pointed out, it is usually never more than $10-$12 a round.

Inder,

Don't want to disappoint you but Illinois is a very anti gun state and they may not allow you to shoot here unless you have a FOID card. However, we could take you across the border to clubs in Hammond Indiana or Bristol Wisconsin and we could get shooting when you're here.

Don't worry about guns - I have a Browning A 5 and Amit has a Remington 870 and he was planning to buy a U/O when we last went for a few rounds of trap. I'll be going to Wisconsin and ammunition is vastly cheaper there than in Illinois - will buy some and bring it back shortly. You won't have to worry too much about expenses etc.

Good to see another Indian shooting in Illinois - come on over and if possible get Mack The Knife to come. Even if you have to hold a gun to his head to get him to visit.

Cheers!

"they may not allow you to shoot here unless you have a FOID card"

Oh yeah, I never thought of that, my apologies. I have been thinking of NH, all along. The hunting license requirement, etc. is a federal requirement and the state of NH (where I live) doesn't have any state requirements (permits, licenses, FID cards) but some states do (MA, NJ, IL as Mehul said) and in those you might have issues shooting trap.

But for a gunsnh.com like place (commercial shooting range, where you rent and shoot under supervision), no FID cards/permits are required even in the Commiest of states. But most such places don't have clay facilities.

But yeah, there are alternatives as Mehul suggested.

I don't think you need an FOID card if you are not a "resident" of Illinois. Out of staters and visitors do not need FOID to buy ammo or shoot in Illinois. Atleast this was what was happening at the World shooting complex in Sparta, Illinois, when I was there for the Grand American.

Kanwar, don't worry about the ammo or shooting. Mehul and the guys will show you a good time I'm sure. If my schedule (wife) permits, I will visit Chicago some weekend when you're there and bring my shottys too, I have a 682 Trap and a Benelli SBE that you can shoot. I'll bring handloaded ammo too.

Hey guys, maybe we can arrange a weekend shooting get-together too when Kanwar is in town. Let me think and we'll put together something.

Hey thanks a lot Sharief,

My main reason to join my current company was onsite oppurtunities and meeting you guys. I am sure I am going to have a nice time with you people. Just can't wait to meet you guys.

Thanks once again for all the offers guys...:)

Sharief,

Buddy, it would be a superb get together if you come over. Yes, let's plan it without fail when Inder is here. There is a Nitroexpress.com member, Balwinder Singh whom I shall also invite - he is from Michigan and I haven;t been able to talk to him yet though I have his number. We could have a great get together here.

The FOID worry was because the club that AMit and I went to require one - no compromises on that - though I know that there is a club in Rockford that even allows out of state people to rent full autos and shoot them on payment of a fee. In any case, after the freedom of living in WIsconsin where guns are a happy part of almost everyone's life, the restrictions in Illinois are something that one has to keep thinking about whenever something to do with shooting comes up.

We'll have a good time when you come - don't worry. We always look forward to having friends from back home here.

Cheers!

Inder,

No dates fixed yet. That said, you may be in luck. There are several places in the Midwest where land owners have been given "nuisance animal permits" to shoot deer year round. This is not going to be a pheasant hunt, but we might be able to get deer if all goes well.

Just come over and join us. I hope that other members here would also take the initiative and come when they can. Abhijeet hasn't visited the US in a long time and he needs to remedy that. penpusher also needs to come. If you guys don't mind a little condo with a very friendly (sometimes to the point of embarassment) dog and a little painted turtle (my new addition - for Grumpy and Deepak who have visited us) you're welcome to stay here. I have a Queen sized air bed that you could crash out on and my spare room has enough room for someone who is not looking for luxury. For comfort, I have some really nice wines at home and also beer. Co nsider this an open invitation. :)

Cheers,

Mehul

Hey Amit, which club in Naperville you go to? Naperville sportsman park or Napperville sportsman Club? I am planning to go this sunday. Lets hope they entertain outsiders?
