Briha sir - in Maharashtra and in Karnataka (and perhaps elsewhere) there is this women's tradition of holding a function called "haldi-kumkum". When I was young the women would get paper packets of turmeric and sindoor - but nowadays there are prefilled plastic packets of the stuff available. I would like to figure out a way of convering those packets into a target size sphere that explodes in a red or yellow cloud. Maybe paper packets are best - don't know. Will experiment.

Rather try the simple chalk sticks that are used in schools. You get a box of 150 pcs of red blue and green colour for 40 bucks. They explode in a puff of chalk dust very well.

Yeah I guess chalk is even better for a great puff. I also had a box of date expired calcium tablets that were almost as good...
