Dear Kshitij - Great images! Thanks for sharing.

Dear Brihaji - So well said - a good photograph should be about Creating a Memorable Image.
My favourite bird photographer Arthur Morris does create a lot of images with blurs

I cannot resist adding a couple of images.

One is my attempt at blurs.
It was shot in Dec 2012 in very poor light at dawn.
I was observing hundreds of Common Cranes taking off from their roosting site.
The picture while not great will always revive memories of that moment for me.
Common Cranes Blur IMG_7780.jpg
The other is about freezing action - about swiftly pointing the camera with a long telephoto at the right place & taking the shot in a very short time.
We were observing a few Green Bee Eaters diving into a small water body directly from the air & taking off in a flash.
I presume it was for bathing/cooling off as it was a very hot afternoon in summer.

Hi Vishy,
> Wow! The photograph of the Flying Cranes - Is poetry in motion :cheering:
> The one where the Green Bee Eater is 'frolicking' to cool off in the pond brings in the mood & thrill the bird is enjoying at that moment
> These pictures have a story value & more so enthuses a connectivity with the viewer.....
> Well done....keep shooting more pictures like these :D
> Would be interested to know the camera, lens, aperture & shutter speeds used.....
Cheers

Hi Vishy!
> Thanks for the promptness in your response :D
> Its the choice of the 'shutter speeds' that have brought about such pleasing images....
> Have you used any filters while taking pictures? If not I suggest you try them ...when used cleverly you can render the effect of a painted canvas on your photographs :D
Cheers

Thank You for your suggestions Brihaji.

The 400 lens is almost glued to my camera as I use most of my photography time for bird photography.

I did try polarizing filter with some of my other lenses with mixed results.
I have a target of using ND filters next to reduce shutter speed and make some pleasing blurs of falling/flowing water.
Need to experiment with other styles of photography more.

Vishwanath

Thank You Dr. Jayakumar.

I use the Canon EOS 40D.
It is a DSLR with an APS-C sensor (smaller than full frame sensor or 35 mm film).
It was introduced in 2008 I think, I bought mine in the same year.
The current camera in the series is the 70D which has quite a few new features especially when it comes to shooting video.

The Autofocus capability of the 40D is reasonably good.
I used the setting "AI Servo" for autofocus where the camera tracks the subject movement to keep it in focus.
It helps that the lens used, the 400 5.6L is among the fast focusing lenses in Canon lineup.
In fact it is the preferred lens for many photographers for capturing birds in flight.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Vishwanath

Hi Vishy,
Some super images you got there. The 400 is one of the best lens for hand held bird in flight images. I bet it has helped you created a lot more photographic gems. Do share more. Cheers :)

Hi Doc,
> Here's a short synopsis of NIKON D750 (just checked with a pro friend of mine)
Image

Nikon D750
24 MP FX + 6.5 FPS

The Nikon D750 is a remarkable camera. It's Nikon's lightest FX camera that offers fantastic AF performance and image quality in any light. It focuses and just shoots in any light. Shots at ISO 12,800 look almost identical to ISO 100!

The Nikon D750 also adds a flipping LCD, the world's first full-frame DSLR that comes with a flip top screen.

At 6.5 FPS, the D750 is also the world's fastest full-frame DSLR. The D750 has built-in Wi-Fi and a STEREO microphone for video.

The D750's 24MP is enough for astounding mural-sized images without size limits if your lenses and technique are good enough, and the D750 is small and compact. Its 24 MP is astounding if you know what you're doing. If you do, mural-sized prints look spectacular.

Hope this info answers your query....It's a fantastic camera with a price to boot :D
