First look: GD RX-100 Rifle
Hello Dear Members,
A happy festive session wish for all of you. I have got my Festival gift already. I bought a GD RX-100 air rifle just two days back. It is an excellent air rifle with respective of look. Because I have just started testing its power, ranges etc and I believe it is too early to comment about its performance. But let me tell you guys about the look of it which astonished me at the first time. The gun looks like a Precihole Gun( SX-100/NX-100) of the new wooden finish version. I have never seen any local made Indian Air rifle with such good shape, size and look. And you know the best part? It weighs far less than GD 600(.22) [ 5.5 kg, as mentioned by manufacturer]. Let me state some features of the gun as a first look.
Name of the Gun: G.D. Products RX-100( please look at the similarity between the name of the gun with Precihole products )
Manufacturer: Excellent Engineering Works, Kolkata
Caliber: 0.22
Weight: Though it was not mentioned there, I believe it would be between 3.5 kg-4 kg, I will let you all know the exact figure after checking by weighing machine.
Effective range: 30-35 mtr
Barrel colour: black, body colour: wooden, with fade yellow in designed section
Fore Sight: Excellent ( exactly like a precihole one)
Rear Sight: Good( adjustable)
Rifling: present and good
Scope Rail: Present
Trigger: Good ( but trigger pull is a bit hard i guess, the reason may be its new,so..)
Trigger guard: Ok, square type
Stock and Butt: Excellent
Chick Rest: Yes,wooden and Excellent
Shoulder Rest Pad: Yes and made of rubber.
Manual Safety: NO
Price: Rs. 4800/-
That's all for the first look. I bought the beast from A.T. Daw & Co. in Lenin Sarani, Kolkata. One thing I must say, I have been to all most all gun shops in Kolkata, but I have never seen such gentlemen people in any other shop. Starting from the Owner to every single employee there behaved very well and it was a warm homely feeling.
Cheers,
Strong_Gun

thank you so much. You have also cleared my problem about the trigger. Any way, sooner I will be posting some good pictures of my gun. Sir, right now I am shooting in a 10 yards range. I believe its my understanding time with my new baby. So, I am keeping in mind your suggestion of posting the "grouping" pictures and that will be done in near future.
Thanks & Regards,

Hi SG,
Saw all photos.
Stock is close clone of PH except front part where the wood does not cover full hinge area.
The said part resembles with Briha's Samurai .
Other outstanding feature is the synthetic 'O' ring as breech seal. This is indeed a new trait among Kolkata made guns.
With this design ,made by wood ,expected to give nice shooting experience.
I am little surprised to watch the rifling where the focus is pitching. It seems that the land is little rough.
I wish to get your comment about that .
A nice buy.

> Nice pictures....
1. The rifling appears to be contaminated with metal shavings - probably left uncleaned after cutting the pitch & landings by the manufacturer....
* Use a brass wire brush (available with gun shops for 0.22cal) and clean the insides of the barrel using any thin lubricating oil / you can also spray WD40 & do it....after which clean with soft cloth.
2. The stock appears to be good but made of a low quality wood....design seems a close copy of Precihole ARs....
* You may detach the action & have the stock sanded smooth - you may also apply 'walnut tint' & apply a mixture of (coconut oil + linseed Oil 50/50) 3 coats - leave overnight after each coat for the oil to soak & rub smooth with '0' emery paper & soft cloth.
3. Is there a rubber or plastic cheek piece put on the cheek rest?
4. The gun has a decent appearance & balance ....remember to adjust the rear sight for elevation & windage for shooting at 10 metres....many new shooters overlook this & later complain about accuracy!!!!!
Good luck!

Also contact a good local gunsmith for fine tuning and if possible get its spring and washer changed to gd sports model 35 spring and diana washer. It can be done with littel modification . Than your gun is ready to hit hole in hole.

Re: First look: GD RX-100 Rifle
Just now saw the overall pics of the rifle,
the same kind of a copy of precihole,
It would have been much better if they could have copied the trigger too from PH.
Give a clean through the barrel using some rest remover spray,
It must be dust which is accumulated inside.
Do post some pics of the groupings also.

Re: First look: GD RX-100 Rifle
Dear maru,
I think it is better for him to pass through some 1500-2000 shots then think of changing some part or the other.
Leather washers are also quite good and gives nice service. Quality of stock spring can only be understood by using it for a little longer period.
I hope it is SG's first gun so is yet to know it well before going for a change.

I agree with this. An premature tuning can sometimes degrade the performance of the rifle unless one is already and expert at solving problems and is ready and willing to dismantle the rifle at short notice to fine tune things. If the rifle is performing well at the time of purchase - better to shoot 2000 shots and let things settle.

Hello Basu,
All your views were exact about my gun. Really the "O"ring is a new addition in Kolkata made air rifles. The rifle is offering nice shooting experience. But i believe it needs some tuning. The rear sight of the gun has some manufacturing or adjusting defect. I will take it to the shop for rectification. It is hitting target at 10 mtr nicely. I have also shoot it at 30 meters. But still the precision is not very good. The reason may be the rear sight problem. You also mentioned about the rough land in the rifling. I have checked the thing carefully. I think those are the results of some pallet material or dust submission in the muzzle. Have a plan to clean the barrel by kit after around 1000 rounds shooting.

Strong_Gun
