Re-boring of a double barrel .450 rifle
Hi all, I have been offered a .450 double barrel rifle, whose ammo is not available, as concluded in past discussions. Can someone pl suggest what bore it can be re-bored to, whose ammo is readily available in the market and also the cost factor involved. Require a positive and sure response please.

Re: Re-boring of a double barrel .450 rifle
Without knowing which .450 cartridge the rifle is chambered for, no answer is possible. Also, it is not feasible to rebore a double. It can possibly be rechambered; the barrels can possibly be lined to a smaller caliber; and it can be fitted with new barrels if the action is suitable. An expensive proposition.alameinite wrote:Hi all, I have been offered a .450 double barrel rifle, whose ammo is not available, as concluded in past discussions. Re: Re-boring of a double barrel .450 rifle
.450 is an insufficient detail. There are a few .450s out there, both nitro and BP.
I am almost certain that a firearm cannot be legally re-chambered to a different calibre in India. Also, regulating and rebuilding a double rifle is an expert's domain and definitely not an easy job. Not many gun smiths can do it even abroad. IMO, you better leave it alone.

You would be better off in trying to locate ammunition for the rifle. That would be a more feasible proposition than trying to have the rifle rebored and rechambered.
By the way, what is exact nomenclature of the cartridge? Is it black powder or nitro? I have been in touch with many arms and ammunition dealers and may be able to help you locate cartridges for the rifle.

special permission will be required.

There is another dimension to it. In India a firearm without passing a relevant proof test cannot be sold. If a double rifle's calibre is converted into a different calibre, it needs to pass proof test at IOF.

Thanks a ton "Dr JK". You have summarised the whole topic in a very short and crisp phrase, that is "Buy something practical". I have totally dropped the idea of going for an old bore. Instead,my sole aim is to buy my first choice .22 single shot only now. Thanks again Dr RK.

Please check:

This is a long way from being a centerfire rifle. However, there are barrels that can be bored and sleeved, similar to engine blocks.

The .360 is a Rook and Rabbit rifle calibre, meant for use on small game. It has long been obsolete.
All the best.

Not so. There are quite a few .360 caliber cartridges that are not Rook and Rabbit rifles, but are (big) game cartridges. Not even sure if there was a .360 R&R cartridge.miroflex wrote:
